Paulo,
Great shot of this, a moth I think? Great focus and position of the moth in the image...

Hi Paulo,
it's a beauty, never seen this before.
The details are excellent, the spost are well seen.
Nice colours and good composition.
Well done.

Hello Paulo,
looking at your freshly captured insects from Central Brazil is always a pleasure and an adventure to me. You take me directly into the splendour of the tropics. Good picture, good details. Providing the approximate size (wingspan) in your notes would help in determining the species.

But there are enough details on your picture to try an approach. For sure it is a large skipper (family: Hesperiidae). And the species, I think, is called:

Achlyodes thraso,
the Southern Sickle-winged Skipper,

distríbuted from Mexico to Argentina,
wingspan approx. 40-50mm.

http://www.rlephoto.com/butterflies/skipper_sicklewinged/9589_skipper_sicklewinged_ws.htm

All the members of the Hesperiidae family are active at day time, so they usually are described together with other "butterflies". But in fact they are more closely related to moths.

Thank you for that lovely puzzle.

Best regards. Adeus.
Peter
