The butterflies are animal pertaining to the classroom of the insects, Lepidoptera order - word of origin Greek whom it means: "wing with scales". The very small scales that recover the wings of these insects, possess pigments of varied colors and are capable to reflect the light, producing colored mosaics, to the metallic or iridescent times. The female butterflies, then after to leave the pupa, are looked by the males and are fecundadas. After the fecundação, the females start the search for the plant where they will go to put its eggs (in general, each species of lepidopteran has preference for only one or little plant-food for the development of its lizards). The eggs come out after some days and them they leave lizards, that after to feed themselves of the rind of the egg, start to eat leves of the plant where if they find. During this phase, the lizards do not make another thing senão to eat. To the measure that grows, the dumb lizard of skin some times. The period between two changes is called to urge. The lizard leaves of if to feed in the last one to urge, empties the stomach, is fixed and suffered the last change, of which pupa or pupa appears. During the pupa phase, the lizard slowly is transformed into butterfly. When the transformation is complete, the pupa if opens and the butterfly leaves its interior. So soon its wing is strained and droughts, the butterfly will be ready to fly.

Fantastic capture Paulo - I have always wanted to see this for myself but never succeeded. Very good sharpness all over the subject and great dof to set off the subject nicely. Coulurs look very natural on my monitor. Composition is good too. Very good and informative note to follow.

Wow! Paulo! I am glad I opened this picture. Is really an incredible moment you captured here. Perfect exposition. Incredible details, textures and colors. Well done and Congrats! Gabriel

What an amazing sight, Paulo.
Very sharp details, great colors...
This capture gives a sense of the texture of that body.
I am a little confused. Is that a caterpillar going into pupa stage?
Whatever it is, it is a great moment. TFS. : )

Fantastic shot Paulo!
Is really amaising to see the methamorphosis af a caterpillar!
Very good DOF and details!
Very good POV and BG too!
5* and TFS!

Hi Paulo,
Well it took quite a while, but now I think I'm able to give you an ID: it's a Archaeoprepona demophoon (Nymphalidae, Charaxinae). Larvae feed on various Lauraceae. What's more, I'd suggest that it's not only the beginning of pupation shown here, but also the (sad) fact that the caterpillar is infested by some parasitic fungi, mould or else...

Best regards,
Dmitry
