This Gavião Carrancho, Carcará, or even Crested Caracara in english, I captured in a soy-bean harvest at my cousin´s farm Zeca. It is fantastic to be near such a big bird of prey (around 60cm tall or 23 inches). It is elegant, trying to pick up small animals after the harvesting machine rolls over the plants.
It is a falcon of the Polyborus plancus species.
Something about it:
The Crested Caracaras’ preferred habitat is open. These birds reside in South America, Central America and the southwestern United States and Florida.
Caracaras hunt live food on the ground or take food from other birds. The caracara is the most terrestrial bird in the falcon group. It spends a great deal of time on the ground. Unlike other members of the falcon family that do not construct nests, the caracara builds a stick nest. The Crested Caracara usually feeds on carrion, but they will take advantage of any food opportunity by eating small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, turtles, fish, crab, eggs, insects, worms, and nestling birds. |

Hello Fabiano,
Very good shot! These are great birds and you've captured him in a very nice pose. I like the POV and framing. I think the BG is too distracting. Maybe it would be good to blur it seeting right apperature or later, in postp[rocessing.
Overall, it's a very good shot!
WELL DONE!

Olá Fabiano,
tudo bem? Tenho um carcará na minha conta mas não chega nem perto deste seu. Ainda vou conseguir um bem de pertinho e nítido!!
Cores e definições ótimas.
Parabéns,
Wagner.
