Plush crested Jay - Cyanocorax chrysops

PLUSH CRESTED JAYS

The crown feathers are stiff and plush-like extending to the rear as a short crest. The head, sides of the neck, throat, and breast are black, with a spot above the eye that is bright silvery blue. A spot below the eye and a short "moustache" alongside the beak are deep blue. The band behind the bird's neck is milky bluish white becoming violet blue on the upper back. The lower breast and belly are creamy yellowish white. The wings and tail are deep blue with the tail broadly tipped white. The sexes are alike.
Life Span: Zoo20Years
Natural Diet:Insects, small animals (including eggs and nestling birds), fruits, and seeds.
Length: Male/Female 14in (35.9cm)
BEHAVIOR: A typical jay, noisy and inquisitive, which is often observed in small flocks and occasionally in mixed company with other jay species foraging through the forest. Similar to other jays, it is a vocal mimic of other birds.
Reproduction: Plush-crested jays nest from early October to December. Clutch size may vary by region, with clutches of 2-4 eggs noted in Paraguay and clutches of 6-7 in Brazil. Egg color is variable, from buff, cream-colored to greenish white, marked with spots, speckles or blotches.
Incubation Period:18Days
Incubation Information:Like other jays, incubation is by the female alone, while the male guards the nest and feeds his mate while she cares for the eggs. After the eggs hatch, both parents raise the chicks, which fledge in about 20 days.

THE PIC:

A wild one, who was coming very close to tourist with the hope to get some bread.
PP work: reduce contrast, enhance blue, and blur, in the background.

Jean-Marie, I don't know if I have already told you I've never gone to Foz do Iguaçu, the place where you took this photo. But, through pictures, I can see the place seems to be really beautiful.

Lovely bird, lovely image. I like the blur on the bg - great post-process. Besides, great colors, pose and sharpness. I like composition too.
