[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'm not sure if this is the great kiskadee. If so, I have the feeling this is a juvenile one. A grown-up can be checked here: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/South_America/Brazil/photo37780.htm

I'll risk a note with some informations about the great kiskadee. In case I'm wrong, please, let me know and I'll update the note.
_____

We call this bird "bem-te-vi". It is an onomatopoeia. When people listen to the bird's voice, they think it sounds similar to words which, in Portuguese, can be understood as “I saw you well” or “Honey, I saw you”. Therefore, the "bem-te-vi" offers us, Brazilians, a suggestive singing.
_____

Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Tyrannidae
Genus: Lanius

The great kiskadee is a large member of the flycatcher family. It is about ten inches in length. It has black and white stripes on the crown and sides of its head. It has a white line above its eyes. Its chest and undersides are a bright yellow and its throat is white. Its back and wings are brown and its bill and legs are black.

The great kiskadee lives in open woodlands, streamside thickets, groves, orchards and parks.

The great kiskadee can be found from extreme southern Texas south to Argentina.

The great kiskadee eats insects like beetles, wasps, grasshoppers, bees and moths. Despite the fact that it is a flycatcher, it also eats berries, seeds, mice, frogs, fish and lizards. It also will dive straight into the water to catch fish.

Kiskadees are monogamous. A male will mate with only one female. Mating season begins in late March. The female great kiskadee lays two to five creamy-white and brown speckled eggs in a domed nest made of sticks, grass, moss and bark. The nest has a single entry hole and is lined with soft material like wool and feathers. The nest is usually built in a thorn tree or bush. Both parents defend the nesting territory and care for the young.

The great kiskadee is named for its loud "kis-ka-dee" call. It travels in pairs and aggressively protects its nesting territory. One of its most feared predators is the coral snake and the kiskadee will stay away from anything that has the same color pattern as the coral snake.

Livio,

Beautiful picture of this pretty bird. By choosing 7.1 aperture you have managed to keep the twig and other in the front and the busy background out of focus. Nice work.

Regards,
Murali Santhanam

Very good DOF and sharp details Livio.
Since the bird is so sharp & well focused, the out of focus FG elements do not distract..Good comp & POV.
Bold color and exposed well also mf.
Nicely done & TFS.

Hello Livio,
Noticing that this was different from the Great Kiskadee that I have seen in Trinidad, I looked it up and found that this shot is of the White-throated Kiskadee (Tyrannus albogularis).
This is a beautiful sharp capture, the flash being very useful here in the shade.
Nice to see!
TFS,
Regards, Ivan

The bright yellow of this bird startles the eyes, Livio.
The green of the tree foliage, the light brown branches and the yellow bird combine into a fantastic colour composition.
Best regards,
Ram

Very beautiful work!

hola Livio,
Hermosa foto, buen angulo desde abajo, mostrando bien al ave. Los colores son hermosos. Lo que no sabía era que emitiera un sonido similar al "benteveo" común que hay por aqui y allá en Brasil.
Saludos
Hernán

Whether he is a Great Kiskadee or not Livio, he is bright wee fellow. Hidden up there in the tree, and his colours certainly stand out brightly. TFS

Hello Livio,
Lovely capture.POV,colors, catchlight in eyes, framing and visual impact are excellent.Have a great sunday!
TFS..:-)

Hi Livio,
Argus is correct. This is an adult Tyrannus albogularis. It can be separated from the about 5 or 6 black-crowned Tyrannidae possible in Minas by the absence of a black crown, by having a more slender body, by beak, etc. It can be separated from the other Tyrannus in Minas (Tyrannus melancholicus) by your bird not having the brownish-grey wash on the breast, and by the relative minimal pale tips to the wing coverts. So, very nice bird, and a relative rare shot of White-throated Kingbird.

I've shot that bird too but it didn't came up with such brilliant colors.
Congrats.
The blades in the way are slightly disturbing.
TFS
JM
