Hello everyone. Todays posting is a scanned slide taken in 1999. It was taken around 5000 meters asl where the air is thin and the colours are intense. some of the sparkes on the lagoon are 'blown' but I think that gives the viewer a sense of just how strong the light was/is.

I like this shot because of the weird colours and the fact that it sort of looks like a painting.

This shot is the same lagoon as 'High Altitude Colours' - about 1km to the north and looking the other way - towards the volcanoes (in Bolivia).

Laguna Miscanti is a brackish water lake located in the altiplano of the Antofagasta Region, in northern Chile. Miñiques volcano and Cerro Miscanti tower over this lake. This heart-shaped lake has a deep blue color. The western shoreline of the lake is separated by less than 1 km from the drainage divide between the lake and the Salar de Atacama basins. Laguna Miscanti basin also has a common boundary with Salar de Talar basin.

A lava flow from an eruption of Miñiques separated Laguna Miscanti from Laguna Miñiques.

The lake is part of one of the seven sectors of Los Flamencos National Reserve.

It sure it fun what the lack of oxygen does to colours...very nicely done...I shall add it to my blue theme. Thanks for sharing this one...Being in such a location is one of my dreams!

Hi James,

The colors look other wordly - in fact the whole scene does. Amazing colors and a wonderful composition. I love seeing your shots of places I have not seen and probably never will.

Jane

very interesting colors, I do like the composition and the deep blues and the yellows of the plants on the left side, I know all too well how harsh lighting can be at high elevations with our 4,000 meter peaks and my climbing of them. Surprised the sky isn't a deeper blue

Hi James!

Look like it was captured not just at high attitude but more like another planet! Colors are very special there, just like the equal light that shines on everything. The other special thing is not much above the water level constant snow cover is already starting. It looks strange that the lake is not frozen meanwhile.
Very special capture in many ways, TFS!

Best regards,
Andor

very beautiful and striking, TFS Ori

Hi James,

Very beautiful landscape. I think the odd blue is quite good and is in line with the other very bright colours caused by snow and high altitude. Nice composition and indeed very beautiful colours. You have managed to capture very well the strange atmosphere the must be.

Crystal clear light, absolutely fantastic. Thin air and beautiful colours seem to go well together, cannot say the same about our lungs! How did you feel being so high in altitude, that's elevated, 5,000 meters, ouf! The picture is sensational and worth every feet you climbed. Thank you!

Francine

Hello James. Good saturation and contrast with gems on the lake. The layers of colors making this interesting and you have shared with us from an excellent perspective. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Interesting scene with the shadows in the mountain almost matching the blue in the water. All the brilliant colors and the great depth of field is superb.

Hi James!

I have scanned many hundreds of slides and know what it means. You managed your scan very well! Actually, as you say, the colours are amazing and reflect a particular landscape and vegetation. I also believe it would almost be impossible not to burn the white tones of the sparkles; anyway, their surface is too small to influence negatively the quality of the picture.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello James,
