| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
These mushrooms grow on trees of the Nothofagus genus. They taste quite good, and were a common source of food for indigenous peoples. Their taste varies from person to person. Some find it fruity, like an apricot, others find it less tasteful and bland. I enjoy them with a bit of lemon, mixed with salad when I'm trekking.
They grow throughout Nothofagus forests in Chile. They pop up once a year, and the tree defends itself forming a callous ball on its trunk. These then look quite beautiful when the branches fall off and you scrape the bark off. |

Hi Pablo.
I like your shot. It is so impressive and well done. Reproduction of the mushroom is perfect; scenery at whole is very nice too. It seems to me the diagonal composition would be better a bit than horizontal one. My bets wishes and TFS.
Alexei.
Hello Pablo!
At first I though that this is some kind of galls made by gall wasps or other insects. But this is a mushroom! What a surprise! :>
Anyway, how big it was???
Best greetings and TFS,
Radomir
Gracias por enseñarnos hongos de Chile, estamos encantados de verlos y lo estaríamos también de probarlos, porque tienen una pinta muy apetitosa.
Un saludo.
Hola Pablo,
Una captura bella y nota muy interesante
Saludos, Shir
A similar species a cures here but this is the first time I have seen one still attached to the host tree. TFS
