| This shot corresponds to a green Iguana. They are inhabitants of Colombia’s north coast. In ancient times this kinds of Iguanas were an alimentary source for the natives and settlers because of their size. In adult state they can measure up to 2 meters long including the tail. Many years ago people fed on their eggs, and was so common in all places of the cities and towns to see people offering them in the streets, fortunately this kind of food is prohibited by the government now. When the lay egg season was on, many people started to hunt them to extract their eggs. They replaced instead of the eggs with grass and ash into the animal belly, thinking that this was enough to avoid them to die, this was just only in their minds due to a false belief because at the end the female Iguana died, and that kind of procedure had the species in danger of extinction. For now the species is protected and is prohibited to sell or buy Iguana eggs and fortunatelly they are recovering their population. |

Luis.
