| This shot was taken in Mamancana, It is a natural reserve that limits with the touristic area of Santa Marta, this area belongs to the dry forest. In one part of that place you can enjoy x-treme sports and in the other you can birdwatch or just walk around. This tree is known as "Arbol Botello" or "Ceiba Blanca", it holds a big reserve of water inside. In a season of the year It loses all of it's leaves and is as such for a time, and then it starts blossoming and sprouting. I could observe in a time a multitude of bats feeding on the flowers. The flower produces a material like cotton, which is called in here "Lana", in ancient times people collected it for stuffing pillows, cushions, mattress, and the like. |
