Who's trying to get near me?

| Another of my pictures taken on the Galapagos. This is a Sally lightfoot crab. These brightly coloured crabs, the scavengers of the coast, are unmistakable along the rocky shores. They will feast on anything they get their claws on, from sea-lion placenta to other crustacea, including their own kind, and have an important role to play keeping the shores clear of organic detritus. The young ones are small and dark, difficult to be spotted by seagulls. |
