Vermillion Flycatcher
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
English: Vermillion Flycatcher
Latin: Pyrocephalus rubinus
Dutch: Rode Tiran
14.5 - 15 cm. Common and conspicuous in semi-open areas with scatterd bushes and trees, not infrequently around houses and farm buildings. In more arid lowlands of west Ecuador and in arid highlands.
Male: crown, lower face and underparts brilliant scarlet, contrasting with sooty blackish upperparts and mask through the eyes.
Often found in pairs, perching in open and usually at no great height above the ground on shrubs, low trees, fenches and wires.
Sallies for insects, most often to the ground, also into air and to folliage.
This photo is made in Puerto Lopez, early in the morning, when this male was sitting on a contrasting yellow fence near the beach. |

Hi Peter,
I'm not sure if the sharpness is good, but I like the contrasting colors and the unusual fence with it's strong rythm. Creative shot!
Well seen and TFS

Nice color-composition, it's a pity that the picture is a little bit fuzzy. It's hard to catch such birds sitting without moving around!

Hi Peter, Very colourful capture of this flycatcher on a wet day. The placement between bright yellow rails is very eyecatching. Good clarity throughout. TFS. Murray.
