The same araçari as I show yesterday, but now in front.

English: Pale-mandibled Araçari
Latin: Pteroglossus erythropygius
Dutch: Bleeksnavelarassari

40.5-43 cm. Canopy and borders of humid forest and secondary woodland in lowlands (especially) and foothills. Sexes alike.
Iris yellow; ocular skin bright red, eye-ring and area in front of eye dark blue; base outlined in white. Bill (11.5 – 12.5 cm) mostly creamy yellow, maxilla tip yellow and black on sides of maxilla, mandible tip black; base outlined in white. Greenish black above with red rump. Throat black; underparts yellow, breast somewhat stained with red and with spot of black on breast and band of mixed black and red across upper belly; thighs brown.
Habits:
Usually in small groups, sometimes up to 6-8 or more birds, that forage in canopy, subcanopy and borders, hopping on larger branches. Often perches in the open early in the morning, but this is much less frequent at other times. Feeds mainly on fruit but some insects and even small lizards, eggs and nestlings are consumed.
Flight level on rapidly beating wings, ending with short glide before landing; often a group straggles along single-file, following much the same flight patch across a clearing.
Voice:
Most frequent call a loud, arresting, high-pitched and squeaky ‘ksísik’ or ‘ksiyík’.

This photo is taken in the sanctuary AmaZOOnico in the jungle of Ecuador.

Hallo Peter,
Geweldig plaatje, de kleuren van de snavel komen overeen met de veren.
En wat een snavel heel byzonder.
Groet
Vivian

Hi Peter,
Impressive bird again.
Good work...
Ecuador...it would be great to have info in your note about the 'jungle' conditions in which the image has been taken. Not that your note isn't okay.

Hi Peter

This is a great looking bird. I see some red by the eye. This stands out really well. What a nasty looking hook at the end of the beak. Nice work. TFS.

Hello Peter,
I think that it is the first time I see this specie. Its beak and colors are very unusual! I like this POV, details and exposure. This natural environment is really nice too. Its eye is amazing too. This is a very nice post! Well done and thanks!
