[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
During a jungle trail near the Rio Napo in Ecuador I saw this butterfly. Till today I don't know what it was.
The latin name is Caligo eurilochus.
The owl-eyes on the wings discourage the enemies.
They like (rotten) fruit.

Excellent shot, Peter!
Wonderful sharpness, color, lighting, pov and composition.
Nevertheless I think this is not Caligo atreus, but Caligo eurilochus.
A good capture anyway. Thanks for sharing.
