| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This photo is of the trail (believe it or not!) we followed from Papallacta up into the Ecuadorian cloudforest. We were in the mountains for five days, and the mist only cleared for about thirty minutes. Being in the cloudforest is being surrounded on all sides (including above) with both growing and rotting vegetation. Even the ground is a spongy mass of moss, lichens, and rotting debris. Sometimes we would find a less dense spot and end up sunk to the knee in the mess.
All that said, the constant moisture in the environment lets an awe-inspiring number of plants grow, including epiphytes high in the trees.
My personal favorites were the red bromeliads -- I'll upload a photo showing one tomorrow. :-) |
