[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In 2006 we were in Ecuador. There I photographed this Gecko on a huge tree. It was difficult to see. First I saw only the black and white end of the tail.
But I didn’t have any idea what lizard it was. So I asked Bayram to look and send him two photos for the ID.
I get this answer: Its up-down position on the trunk and caudal transwers band (resembling Hemidactylus) indicates that this is a gecko species. Also the pupil is prominent in your 2nd shot that show us it is oval in shape. This feature is the characteristic of the day geckos which are lives in Madagascar mainly -(by the way all night-active geckos have a vertical pupil like cats:))-. But a representative genus Gonatodes lives in South America including Ecuador. Therefore your shot absolutely a Gonatodes sp. However, I am not sure exact id. The collar white band on the neck, caudal white bands and dark wide maculations which I could see in your 2nd shoot indicates that it may be Gonatodes concinnatus (Collared Forest Gecko).

THANK YOU VERY MUCH MY FRIEND.

Gonatodes:
These small arboreal geckos evidently produce one egg at a time over a long lireeding season, but with one or more seasonal peaks of breeding activity in the course of a year. (University of Kansas)

I’m not satisfied about the quality of the photo, but anyway I hope you like it

Hi Peter. Well i must admit i had a job to see it at first. But once i sasw the tail i could then see the rest . It blends in so well with good colours , You were lucky to have even seen it. All with interesting notes .

TFS.
Nick..

Hi Peter,
it's difficult to find this guy - but it's an amazing one with a big eye.
I think they are shy and not easy to catch?!?
I always fail when I come closer and they run away. Only one time in Burma I made a shot of a wonderful one - I called it Latte Macchiato with menta ;-) Had it here a long time ago.
So thanks and greetings

Dag Peter.

Hi Peter,

I'm surprised you did see him! I spotted the tail first and then the eye. And a beautiful eye it is. Interesting to see him going down the tree.

Hello Peter,
Great eye just finding him Peter, he is so well camouflaged. Your image is a splendid example of mother natures beauty.
Rick

Hello Peter

A great example of how animals can blend in with their surroundings.
I can see the eye very well and the tip of the tail, but the rest is really well hidden.
A very fitting dedication and along with the notes makes the dedication that much more fitting.

Hello Peter, wonderful capture of a well camouflaged day gecko with wonderful colours and composition. Also great dedication.
TFS and G's,
Mehmet

Looks like it is an exotic species of Geckos, Peter, so even though your picture of it is rather below par, it serves as a valuable document.
I would not assess a picture on TN for its technical excellence alone, so full points to you for presenting a creature not seen frequently.
Regards.
