| Tres Chimbadas is an oxbow lake 30 minutes by boat and 45 minutes hiking from the Posada Amazonas, which is 2.5 hours downriver by boat from Puerto Maldonado. The lake is inhabitated by a resident family of 9 giant river otters, a few caiman, and a lot of these little guys...golden pirahnas. This one is about 10 cm long(they grow to about 20 cm)and are endowed with razor-sharp teeth. Not worth a punctured finger to remove the hook while it's still alive! Three of them gently fried make for a tasty lunch. |
