Guanay Cormorant
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| The Guanay Cormorant (Phalacrocorax bourgainvillii) with its spectacular red 'eye-patches' is yet other sight on the trip to the Balistas Islands off the coast of Peru. It is also found also off the coast on islands of Chile and Argentina. Presumably, its scientific name suggests it is also found off the pacific islands?? It is also one of the main contributers to the valuable 'guano' harvested already in pre-Hispanic days to cultivate crops in the andean highlands and so extensively commercially by foreign companies earlier this century that little remained. |

Peter,
Thank for the e-mail, and your very kind words. I'm glade you feel the same. The world is full of wonderful things beyon our imagination. We learn about it everyday.
This is a very nice shot with really great details, I like the rought texture of the rocks as your backdrop. Yes, its eye patch is very distingtive in red. Good composition as well. Thanks.
