I had been away for a business trip. So had not posted anything the past two days.

This photo was taken in the garden of my mother, it is a Skipper, who has a habit of remaining perched among the branches of shrubs. To take the photo I had to use fill flash at 1 / 3 in manual mode, because the light in the foliage, are very low. This skipper is quieter than others of the same family and usually feed on nectar from flowers located in the foliage, where the incidence of solar radiation is lower.

A skipper is a butterfly of the family Hesperiidae, and superfamily Hesperioidea (there is only one family in this superfamily). They are named after their quick, darting flight habits. There are more than 3500 recognized species of skippers and they occur worldwide, but with the greatest diversity occurring in the tropical regions of Central and South America.
All butterflies other than skippers are classified into either the superfamily Papilionoidea or theneotropical superfamily Hedyloidea. Collectively, these three groups of butterflies share many characteristics, especially in the egg, larval and pupal stage (Ackery et al. 1999). However, skippers have the antennae clubs hooked backward like a crochet hook, while regular butterflies have club-like tips to their antennae and hedylids have feathered or pectinateantennae, giving them an even more moth-like appearance than skippers. Skippers also have generally stockier bodies than the other two groups, with stronger wing muscles. Hesperioidea is very likely the sister group of Papilionoidea, and together with Hedyloidea constitute a natural group or clade.
There are about 3500 species of skippers. They are usually classified in the following subfamilies:

*Awls, Awlets and Policemen (Subfamily Coeliadinae, about 75 species)

*Grass Skippers (Subfamily Hesperiinae, over 2000 species)

*Skipperlings (Subfamily Heteropterinae, about 150 species)

*Giant Skippers (Subfamily Megathyminae, about 18 species)

*Spread-winged Skippers (Subfamily Pyrginae, about 1000 species)

*Firetips (Subfamily Pyrrhopyginae, about 150 species)

*Australian Skippers (Subfamily Trapezitinae, about 60 species)

A truly unique species of Skippers you got for us there, Jesus.
The picture is very sharp and shows the colours and patterns on the wings very effectively.
The green foliage serves well to highlight the brown subject.

Skillful picture of the beautiful butterfly. I have not met such attractive colouration. I welcome effective use of flash. Insect and surrounding leaves are reproduced with great details. POV and composition are excellent. Superb presentation of this cute creature. All the best for the trip.

Hello Jesús,
A fine close-up of this skipper, taken from a fine POV to show it resting with the wings open with excellent sharpness and colours to contrast well against the leafy BG in your mother's garden.
There are many species of Skipper in Venezuela, but i have been able to fine the ID here: it is the Tropical Dusky-wing (Anastrus sempiternus), a nice fresh specimen.

Bueno, como has escrito mucho y además no entiendo el Inglés, he dedicado más tienmpo a la observación de tu mariposa jeje.
A Argus le tenemos que hacer alguna cosa...cuantas especies ha llegado a identificar este Señor !
La toma, perfeccionista diría yo, como siempre, ya que procuras cuidar todos los aspectos técnicos de la imagen; pero no solo eso, sino que aportas también una dosis importante de arte y creatividad artística.
Como siempre admiro que a f2.8 consigas buena profundidad, como vemos en la cabeza, aunque lo que es diferente y destaca en esta toma, a mi gusto, son la luz y los colores sobre todo.
Esos marrones son "rompedores" y sus brillos bien trabajados.
Vamos, que estaría un buen rato comentando con mis justos conocimientos del tema, pero prefiero seguir mirándola:-)
