I have a small collection of "Cicadellidae" at several plants in my garden. This species is one of the largest, however, rarely exceeds 1.2 CMTS. These insects seem to have much ability to detect when they are approached by the objective of a camera , tend to "rotate" around the stem where they perch and hide. It is quite funny to deal with this ability to bypass the photo!.

I think it will be difficult to classify any of the "Cicadellidae" so accurate. However, this May I had a breakthrough and was able to get the genre. Found no match to any species.

Phylum Arthropoda - Arthropods

Class Insecta - Insects

Order Hemiptera - True Bugs, Cicadas, Hoppers, Aphids and Allies

Suborder Auchenorrhyncha - Free-living Hemipterans

Superfamily Cicadoidea

Family Cicadellidae - Leafhoppers

Subfamily Cicadellinae

Genus Oncometopia

**These species found do not coincide with the features that was photographed.

Species alpha - Oncometopia alpha
Species clarior - Oncometopia clarior
Species nigricans - Oncometopia nigricans
Species orbona - Broad-headed Sharpshooter

Hola Jesus,

Great pic, wonderful macro shot. Great sharpness on the focused area, plenty of details - quite a pity the background noise is so much. You can avoid this problem if You draw these territories around with "magnetic lasso" tool in Photoshop (or any other software You have) and You use "gaussian blur" filter - small dose to closer objects and bigger to the distant ones (of course I mean non-focused area only). Otherwise Your image is composition-wise great, clever use of flash (I didn't notice it until the exif info wasn't written), tasteful frame. Gracias.

For me You're one of the best newcomers on the site, who makes not only good photos but his interest doesn't end with his own art and is also willing to comment others' images. For me, You're "Rookie Of The Year" on TrekNature. :)

Un saludo, László

Hi Jesus,
what an exciting shot. Very well presented with great sharpness of the cicada and the green branch it sleeping onto.
splendid shot.

regards,
Foozi

Good capture of this curious looking insect, Jesus.
The focus is quite sharp as a result of which, many fine details on the insect are well displayed.
I do detect some BG noise, but it is immaterial in view of the clarity of the subject.
Well done and regards.
Ram

Hola Jesus

Vaya, una imagen muy buena de este insecto que no había visto nunca, seguramente será por eso que informa que a la presencia humana se esconden.

Buena toma y con claridad, felicidades

Un saludo Antonio

Another good shot Jesus,
Looks like less light this time.
Nicely composed & presented though.
Cheers & TFS
