Undeniably, I am going to be quite complicated to find the ID of the hairy caterpillar. So I'm going to stay in debt for now.

But I wanted to publish it because the photo was taken in a somewhat adverse conditions. The caterpillar was on a small shrub, a low level of humid mountain forest. Trees surrounding heights were between 10 and 25 meters. The level of light in the forest, was frankly low. The characteristics of this worm, its color and bright white pilosity; merited a photo that could transmit good details and relatively accurate.

I decided to use the F/4, ISO 100, 1/400s and flash at 1/3. But the light conditions were rather negative and the result was a picture with very poor lighting. The required adjustment could not do it in speed, as would be too slow and the picture could be blurry. either go to a level of ISO 200 because the photo flash burn due to further minimize impossible it.

The solution was a setting to F/3.5 aperture, with that got enough light for a photo with good detail and additionally, a better background and depth.

I hope that this brief reference may be useful to those who, like me, enjoy photography and have a compact camera.

Greetings all, Thanks for stopping to visit!

Jesús

Hi Jesus,

You've done it again - stretched your camera to its limits and present a marvelous macro of this caterpillar. Colors and details are wonderful and the texture of the hairs are spectacular. Shows off beautifully against the black background.

Hi Jose,
This is a very interesting-looking caterpillar.
You managed to capture it with very natural colors and light, despite the difficult conditions.
The white "hairs' are well-lit without being washed out in the flash.
Excellent DOF.
And thanks for the warning about touching these little hairy critters!
TFS. : )

Hi Jesus

Excellent - I think you have managed to capture the environment in the shot very well! It really does look like a dark, mountain forest! Think the focus and details on the caterpillar is perfect. Always nice to see pictures of potentially uncommon species.
