It is strange, but think that this butterfly was a bit tired when photographed. Also the wings were a little spoiled, because I imagine that was a bit "old" ... Anyway, I wanted to publish it because it allowed me to photograph him with relative ease, which is not common among our tropical butterflies!

The Brown Peacock or Scarlet Peacock (Anartia amathea) is a species of nymphalid butterfly, found primarily in South America. It is reported as common in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, the Brazilian highlands, the eastern Amazon, the Guianas, Venezuela, and Panama, as well as Trinidad and other Caribbean islands. North American records are either in error or refer to strays.

Larval host plants are mostly undetermined, but these include the families Acanthaceae and Labiatae.

Hello Jesus,
Excellent macro of the scarlet peacock. I know this is an older specimen, but the colors are vibrant and the BG is nicely soft. The composition may be a bit centered for my taste, but this provides a great illustration of an unusual (at least on TN) species.
Regards,
Greg

Hola Jesus,
Beautiful photo and b-fly. Colorful, greatly composed (the centered compo doesn't bother me here) and the background's also excellent, no bg noise at all. Everything's perfect on the pic, except for - by my opinion - it's a little bit oversharpened. Otherwise a stunner.
Gracias, un saludo, László

Hello Jesús,
This species, that I have seen several times when I was in Trinidad, is very striking when fresh. On Trinidad it is known as the Red Coolie. Pity I was there befor digital photography!
Though this is a worn specimen it is a nice sharp capture taken from a fine POV to show its features with excellent sharpness and lighting against a pleasing leafy Bg.
Thanks for posting this nice reminder of a visit not far from your country.
Best regards,
Ivan

Hola Jesus,

What a great capture of Brown Peacock butterfly! It looks so adorable and tender. The textures are very well shown with exceptional sharpness and from a wonderful POV. The DOF is very fine. the colors of the butterfly give great contrast to the green leaves sorrounding it.
Great job!

thanks and regards,
Paras Bhalla

Hola Jesus!

Old but still beautifull. This butterfly looks very exotic. Good shot with nice composition and colours, perfect sharpness and blurred BG.

Saludos.

Hi Jesus

Great shot of thi sbeautiful species, you were lucky indeed. Everything is perfect on this shot, superb sharpness and details. Excellent pose and composition. Perfect DOF and background. Well done.

Chris

Hallo Jesus
Tired or not, old or not, this is indeed a beauty. You were very lucky to capture this beautiful butterfly so well, as I know butterflies with opened wings are not that easy to photograph. The details on the wings is greatly displayed and seen. I like the arrangement of strong colours and patterns on the wings, it is really lovely to look at and appreciate, you have used the light well as it brings out the colours to its best. Great full framed composition. Thanks for sharing this fine image. Best regards.
Anna
