[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
At the beginning of August, some mornings repletes of a brilliant and generous sun, allowed me to take some pictures endeavoring less than it usual. This small lycaenida was taken with ISO 80, F 2.8 and 1/1250s of shutter. Is not common that has so much light as to use these values. Also, had not wind, and something of dew was still on the bloom where the insect is put down. Definitively, conditions were very good... until the butterfly wanted to pose!

Identification:

Underwings nearly identical to Dusky Blue Groundstreak, but upperwings golden-orange to rusty brown.

Range:
Mexico south through Brazil, with rare strays to the LRGV of Texas.

Habitat:
Forest edges

Life Cycle:
Caterpillars have been reared in captivity on leaves of Retama (Parkinsonia aculeata) but some sources cite Coral Bean (Erythrina herbacea) flowers as the host.

Description:

Size 3/4-7/8" (19-22 mm). Small. Golden-orange above with brown at base, costa, and margin. Gray below with postmedian band black, white, and red; thin, dark submarginal band and prominent red spot and blue patch by HW tail.

Similar Species:

Olive Hairstreak green below. Red-banded and Dusky Blue hairstreaks both black and blue above.
Life Cycle Unknown.

Flight Multiple broods; April-May, August, and November-December.

Habitat Tropical and subtropical forest edges and scrub.

Range S. Brazil straying rarely into S. Texas.

Discussion The Ruddy Hairstreak is one of many neotropical butterflies that may occasionally be found in the southernmost extremities of North America. It used to be called the Endymion Hairstreak, named for a shepherd in Greek mythology lulled into perpetual sleep by the moon - hardly a suitable namesake for this flighty and alert butterfly.

You used excellent camera settings for your compact to achieve superb sharpness of this Hairsteak as well as a fine OOF natural BG.
The composition on petals of this flower is superb.
A fine image of a species that I think is new for TN!

Wow, one of the best shot I have today seen on TN! Te butterfly looks so adorable with wonderful natural colors and the placing of the butterfly on the right side of the frame is just awesome. The colors of the flower and the BG, collectively give a great contrast to the butterfly's colors and textures. The eyes and antennae are well shown. Simply perfect composition!

Preciosa tu toma; muchos con cámaras compactas nos dais mil vueltas a los de las reflex jeje solo hay que ver el precioso trabajo que nos presentas, con unas texturas admirables y atractivas en las alas y unos colores fieles y elegantes en el conjunto. Buena también la luz y el encuadre.
Hoy fotografié una muy parecida que aún tengo que id. ya la publicaré otro dia, tengo material para años jaja.

No se nunca que valores aplicar al hacer fotos, lo hago o por intuición o automáticamente, soy un autodicata que lo poco que sabe lo ha ido aprendiendo gracias a todos los compañeros.

Tu foto es mpreciosa, la protagonista tiene una definición en las alas inmejorable, se aprecian todas sus teturas. Execlente trabajo, para que vean algunos de lo que es capaz una compacta. Se puede decir que yo la reflex la tengo olvidada.
