Hello TN people!

I have to admit that me am making good use of of the members' knowledge of TN, to classify butterflies of the region where I live. But I believe that many you enjoy to see these absent species of gardens and fields of Europe and North America and that fortunately possess here in more tropical latitudes.

The butterfly that today I posted, is called by the children of my small village "The Little carpet" owing to the fact that it likents to carpets that craftsmen make in this place. His wings' most part, is of brown very dark, and all the outside edge is decor for a beautiful border white, brigth red-brown, and black spots.

It is a very vivacious insect, whose preference are yellow and orange flowers. It usually appears in the morning until the noon, is enough common between months of June until October, when rain falls in this region.

I have not been able to determine his ID, that is why I appeal again to TN in seeks back-up. I expect can help again!

When I took this picture, the day was cloudy and I had to adjust the white balance. Also, because of the very dark brown tome of wings, I had to try several adjustments until obtaining regular details of the color and the insect's texture. Finally, with f/3.2, ISO 100 and 1/125s (hand held camera) I could obtain a faithful result to the insect, without burning the bloom where is put down.

Camera: Canon
Model: Canon PowerShot SX110 IS
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/125 s
f/3.2
Focal lenght: 6mm

Thanks!

Jesús

Hello Jesus,
What a wonderful dark beauty very nicely captured on the yellow flower. Excellent sharpness and colours; the details of the wing markings are very beautiful! A nice dark green background completes this fine composition.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hola Jesús,

"When dark and light colors meet together, it brings wonderful contrasts and making the composition an outsstanding one", this is the message you seem to convey through your picture. Great job!

Ths sharpness and POV are just ideal and the DOF couldn't be better, I think. The rich green blurred BG is nice too.
Very well done!

thanks and regards,
Paras Bhalla

Hi Jesus,
you present this small butterfly perfectly, there is nothing to remark. Dark ones are always tricky, but you mastered it well. For ID I am unfortunately of no help. Thanks for the detailed note.
Best regards
Dietrich

What makes your model look all more beautiful Jesus, is the lovely yellow flower. Its a very good shot, a suitable reward for putting so much efforts into it like you have mentioned in your note. Composition, sharpness, focus is just right. Nice capture indeed.

Hola Jesus,

this species belongs to a family of butterflies, the Riodinidae, which is represented in Europe
by only 1 species, but in the neotropics there are hundreds. The species shown here belongs to the genus
Charis which includes small sometimes not easily distinguishable species. Most probably
it is Charis chaonitis, but I'm not 100% sure although your picture shows all details very sharp.
Also the dark colours are professionally reproduced.

Best wishes, Peter

ola Jesus!
delicious also this species ,with a good management, for the difficult catch with the dark coloration of the butterfly and yellow flower....impressive details of wings....

Complimenti e buona giornata.Luciano

Hello Jesús,
I missed this beauty! A fine capture of this attractive dark Riodinid butterfly, looking even more striking against the yellow flower. The technical features and the composition with its wings open are excellent.

Hello Jesus,
What a cute name for this little butterfly! Very beautiful color-contrast between the dark butterfly and the bright flower. Not so easy to make a good shot!
Interesting series of South American butterflies, which are not so often shown on TN.
Thanks a lot for it
Kind regards
Anne
