hi all!
this strange clouds were taken last year during a polo game at Palermo (Buenos Aires), before the rain. I used zoom as much as posible. There you can see also some birds flying at the bottom of the picture.
I really like the sensation of this clouds, like cream, like plastic, like bubbles... really strange day. But I like the sun trying to shine in the middle of the biggest bubble.
As it was starting to rain, the light is not the best, it was very windy also.
I don´t know too much about clouds, so I someone can help me with this kind of clouds, I will be very thankfull.
Hope you like it!

Thanks Markus (Heaven) and James (Jamesp) about this notes, so we can explain this phenomena better! :

"The uneven cloud base is unusual - the cloud base is also condensation point for rising air - that is what forms the cloud. The uneven base is probably caused by massive instability locally causing unusually strong convection currents in the air. The cloud was probably a cumulo-nimbus and given the strength of the updfaft"
[James]

"In my country, skies like this one are not so rare. When we have a weather situation with the wind coming from the south (Foehn), we sometimes have similar cloud formations".
[Markus]

Hi Brenda,
i have seen very similar clouds here in the UK a few years ago, but only ever once and i wondered what caused it too. I like the textures you have caught here and the very imposing feel of the clouds hanging overhead. I think perhaps with a tweak of contrast you could make the shapes stand out even more? I hope somebody can explain this phenomena, i will keep watching to see iof you get any answers!
Thanks for sharing this!
Paul

Isn't it a fantastic shot Brenda, I love it. To me it looks like very think skin showing veins... and what a huge formation of clouds when you see the flock of birds underneath it. Very well seen, efficient and at the same time, what a good reminder of summer ;-) Last night I watched a program on television about the atmosphere. They talked about some parts of Argentina being places where you would see fantastic rain storms and flashes, among the biggest on earth... I don't know about the phenomenon you show us but the way I understood the TV program last night, some parts in Argentina are the biggest calibers thunderstorms on the earth because of the air of Antartic meeting with the air of the continent... maybe there is a clue there. Thank you Brenda,

Francine

Hi Brenda

The uneven cloud base is unusual - the cloud base is also condensation point for rising air - that is what forms the cloud. The uneven base is probably caused by massive instability locally causing unusually strong convection currents in the air.

The cloud was probably a cumulo-nimbus and given the strength of the updfaft I would imagine the rain would have been accompanied by intense thunder and lightning. I would need to see a couple of other images to be sure though.

Thanks for this interesting posting.

James

hOLA Brenda:

Como dice james, al parecer es la primera etapa de una cumulo, CUMULONIMBUS MAMMATUS, para mi es la formacion de nubes mas espectacular...mañana pondré una foto de Colombia similar, pero con las bolsas "mammatus" mas formadas.

Hi Brenda!

It's an unusual, yet very pleasant and interesting picture you show us here. This sky is really dramatic and beautiful. In my country, skies like this one are not so rare. When we have a weather situation with the wind coming from the south (Foehn), we sometimes have similar cloud formations.

Kind regards

Markus

wow, what a clouds! Looks just amazing! Thanks for that shot, and for critique on my forest trees ;-)
Cheers

Giant heavenly balls! Weird!

Nice shot! I have never seen this type of shot before in TN. Compliments for your creative power and imagination. Good work.

Bonsoir Brenda
L'effet est très bon, et la teinte un peu inquiétante.
Bravo et Merci
Laurent

Es una textura muy interesante, a mi me recuerda a un tejido celular, o algo asi.
Gracias por compartirla y un saludo, Felipe.
