Nombre científico: Zenaida asiatica Linnaeus, 1758
Nombres comunes: Paloma ala blanca, paloma aliblanca
Hábitat: Viven en sabanas, bordes de bosque, zonas áridas con cactus, arbustos espinosos y árboles aislados. Descansan en grandes bandadas en árboles de sabana.
Reproducción: Su nido consta de un platón poco profundo de palitos burdos, colocado de 2 a 8 m. de altura en un árbol espinoso, cactos, arbustos o mangles bajos. Ponen 1ó 2 huevos blancos, con un leve tono ante. Se reproducen entre enero y marzo.
Alimentación: Se alimentan de semillas, granos o arena sobre el suelo, en sitios abiertos dentro del bosque y en sabanas.
Comportamiento: Son sumamente gregarios.
Relaciones: Son depredados por el “falso vampiro” (Vampyrum spectrum, Phyllostomidae). |
