Happy St. Patrick’s Day

In the sincere hopes that I will not break the ToS by doing so, I cannot help but share this little bracket fungus that I found a couple of years ago simply because it has an impish “face” – one that seems very much in keeping with St. Patrick’s Day. I have no knowledge of fungi, and would be delighted if some-one wished to positively identify this. My first guess would be: Polyporus squamosus.
Wishing you all a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day;
May you all find your particular pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Hello Silke,
Very amusing interpretation of the 'face' on this bracket fungus. The Irish might say this looks like a leprechaun: the Swedes might say it looks like a troll.
Whatever, I 'm afraid I can't ID this interesting bracket fungus, but the name is often associated with what it grows on, the substrate.
I don't have a shamrock to celebrate St. Patricks Day, but I wishyou a nice weekend and TFS.
Ivan

Ha! I see we are on the same wavelength! Well up to a point for I find your fungus not a very inviting drinking buddy!

In fact it looks like IT would guzzle all the green beer before I would get my first sip!
It's "nose" looks like a powerful siphon!

Great capture of an apparition created by Nature. Put to good use! Chimo! Jay

Funny face indeed, Silke. Good catch and quite appropriate for the day. I'll see if I can find one like this in Eire :).
Best wishes,
Hakan

What a strange shaped Bracket fungus, Silke!
The impression of a face is unmistakable on it.
Happy St Patrick's Day to you too!

Hello Silke,
funny face, leprechaun indeed. The soft texture of that giant tree fungus is very well shown in this kind of light with pleasantly soft shadows. Happy St. Patrick's to you, too!Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

LOL Silke
Nature has her own way making faces and this is a great example. Perhaps the little Leprechaun getting ready to pull a few pranks.

Interesting lighting effect and excellent detail and colours.

YOu found a fungus with a lot of "personality" :)
It really looks like a soul of the forest emerging from the tree.
I like to see this one, it is interesting. Very nice use of available light.
