[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
For those who remember BC by Johnny Hart. This 4th picture of the female concludes the little mini-series on the Cape Weaver, & I have learned something new – It is a myth that she demolishes the nest, as I have been told many times in my life, & wrote in my previous note – sorry, live & learn. Some statistics in the life of a weaver - In species that nest colonially, the male tears down the nest to enable him to build a new one to lure the female. Over an 8 year period,, a particular male weaver built 204 nests, most of them incomplete; 82 lasted longer than 10 days & 24 of these were used for breeding; in only 17, chicks were successfully raised. The male contributed between 600 & 800 pieces of material for the nest, the female about 200 for lining the brood chamber. He flies an average of 20 km in total in building one nest, & builds 7 nests a season. The act of building a nest far outweighs any other act of the male weaver. Wow, am I glad that there is photography too in life, not just tending the house! Taken @Krugersdorp Game Reserve; ISO 200 @ -1 EV; Nikon D70; Sigma 120-300 F2.8 lens & 2X converter @ Focal length 600 mm; 1/400 @ F8; Aperture Priority Mode; no flash, Pattern Metering Mode; Manfrotto Tripod and Wimberley head; Some cropping; little USM & some Hue & saturation brightness; reduced to Site size.

I also thought it is the female that rips the nest appart (why would weavers be different?). Maybe the female weavers have evolved into a higher being and she is now telling him to rip it appart!! This one is going to need a BIG entrance to her new nest. As usual an excellent capture and I love the note. I'm glad im in I.T. and not in construction.

You kept the best for last in this series. This is a stunning portrait. Great detail abd that feathers are so fluffy. I have learned from your note. A male just started this morning to build a nest in my yard. The rest will follow shortly. Nice one Callie, great note. Thanx.

It was a very good series, Callie, and this is a nice one to wrap it up. Beautiful posing and great detail in the bird, and nice positioning on the diagonal branch. Love the alert eye of the cute chick, in case you're interested in my vote ;-)

I really like the sharpness and her clearly orange eye that contrasts nicely against her yellow feathers

Beautiful capture, nice diagonal, great colours, sharpness and DOF. She seems to have a very determined glint in her eye, so no cute chick ;-)

Very nice capture of this colourful bird Callie. Everything seem to work perfect here - colours, dof and composition. I like the diagonal of the branch. Very informative note.

What a beautiful shot this is with perfect composition and great detail. Theres no doubt about it birds make for some of the best wildlife pictures as theres great variation among them. I love the coloring of this little bird and its fluffy breast. Brilliant.
