There is a steep hill nearby which borders a local waterslide park. The area looks as though it was plowed in such a way as to simply block out the noise coming from the park so that it would not disturb the local residents. For quite some time, no effort was made to plant any vegetation here, and the erosion caused by rain was pretty brutal at this site. Any trees that were left after the plowing really took a beating, many of them died over the past few years. I hiked through this area a few times and it was painful to see. I never saw anyplace in Ohio look more like a desert. The nearby road was even starting to drop into the valley that was started by the erosion. The only birds I ever saw here were turkey vultures, looking for dead animals.
Finally they planted some fast-growing rye grass here, and within a year things were looking better. At least they aren’t sliding away anymore, and the deer are starting to graze. I haven’t hiked through yet, but I was driving by and saw this view from the road. I had to pull over and get a few shots, quickly, as the traffic on this road isn’t very forgiving. I like the different converging angles, and the dark blue sky. No filters in this shot, just the luck of the day. In retrospect, I wish I’d had the foresight to take a before and after picture of this area, but I had no idea anyone planned to improve it. Since the ground isn’t so dry here anymore, the dead tree looks out of place.
I am wondering if it was wise to include the fallen tree in the lower left, or should I have cropped it out? Does it give balance, or distract? |

I think you did well in keeping the tree within the shot, its almost like an anchor. I hope that now you have seen the improvement, you are going to hike through this and post more beautiful shots. Your image and the note makes for a powerfull combination. Thanks for posting!
I am sorry not many people have looked at it so far, because the would learn a lot from it and your realy good note, not every wildlife scene can exciting but this clearly and simply shows what there is to see and the notes explain it as they should do , Thank you for taking the time to share it. I look forward see posts from here as it developes and seeing some of the bugs and things that come with it.
Hi,
I like this picture because of the simplicity of the subject. I do like the tree in the corner, It looks like you are hidden in the bushes, admiraring mother nature, in her beautifull simplicity.
I like the tree in the foreground it gives a textural contrast to the soft sky and grasses. I really like this scene, even though it follows a sad story of what mankind does to nature sometimes. The mood here seems very hopefull and it appears to be a beautiful place again. Lovely photo.

Simple but beautiful picture. I think that the composition is great. The fallen tree gives the picture more depth so I'm glad that you left it in the picture.
