Ever wonder what they are thinking? It's hard to find expression in birds! But I think if he could, he would tell you all about the satisfaction of a full belly and warm days. And of course, that dreamy, graceful, seemingly effortless float over land and water.

Of course this is an American White Pelican. Here in Southern Alberta we see these all summer long. They used to be very rare here, I assume because of a combination of previous hunting pressure and global warming.

Hi Dave,

Marvelous catch. A shame it's a dark background though. But nice to see this huge wingspan. -Incredible...

Thanks,
Christian

Hello Dave,
superb capture of an awesome bird.
But like Christian said, the background is too dark.
Well done,
Joey

Hi Dave,
halcyon days indeed. This is a very nice subject to have got an in flight photo of.The dynamic of this shot is good and the only thing that could be better would be the exposure of the wings not be so harsh.Nice note as well esp the bit about expression,it seems to me only mammals are capable of expression but I'm not sure.TFS Bob

Beautiful shot . Love the background with the boiling water . Birds do have a way of facial expression , it's in the eyes . There are quite a few birds coming back to Alberta , and it's great to see .

Hello Dave,
Superb, superb inflight of this big bird and very nice composition over the spillway water. This capture has excellent sharpness and colors to go with the great lighting, thanks for sharing.

Hi Dave
A really great action shot of the Pelican! Wow, wonderful wingspan, good use of light and it is nice and sharp showing colourful beak and eyes. I like the water in the background, it sort of adds drama to the shot. Good work.

Hi Dave,
Another masterpiece from birds ''paparazzi'' :)
really like the sharpness so I could see the bird expression, eventhough you said it is difficult to guess, but it seem like he is very comfort, the water give the dynamic effect to the image, excellent shot

Hello Dave,
I often wonder what they are thinking indeed. Sometimes, I can almost know as they show some kinds of expressions :) This is a very good in-flight shot with superb composition and good exposure. I like this BG a lot. The size of their wings is amazing! Thanks,
Claudine
