[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The great horned owl is probably best known for the large tufts of feathers on its head that look like horns. It has big cat-like eyes and brown white, gray, and black markings that look like the bark of a tree. These markings help camouflage it in the woods.
It has a wing span of over four feet and it is about two feet in height.

The great horned owl is nocturnal. It hunts small mammals like mice, rabbits, squirrels and skunks. It also eats birds like ducks and quail. It eats small prey whole, larger prey it rips up into smaller pieces that is can swallow.

The great horned owl has very good eyesight and excellent hearing that help it hunt at night. Its loosely-packed feathers make it almost silent when it flies. This makes it easier to sneak up on its prey.

Hi Jane,
Those eyes are amazing and adds chracter to the bird. The details and the sharpness is good too. But i would have underexposed it by half stop to get more darker tones

Hi Jane, a fine shot of this handsome Owl. I can see how he would be camoglaged against the bark of a tree. You have caught him with good sharpness and wonderful detail in the feathers. The eys are amazing! Lighting and colour is excellent. I would love to know where he/she was when you took the shot.

Hello Jane,
Amazing close-up of this grand owl. Excellent sharp details of the sharp eyes and the tuft of feathers on the head! Was this taken in the wild? How close were you?
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

I have one on my property but have as yet to capture a shot of him in the clear. Nice shot, love those eyes.

Greg

Portrait style , with excellent detail of the eyes . Great capture , I love the fluffy tufts . This looks like a mail , and I hope you get the chance to catch his mate , too . We have a pare nesting on our farm , and the mail greets me most mornings with a hoot . They do get to know you .
