Flamingos

A lot has been written about the flamingo on TN. Spring is in the air, and all the animals are going a bit nuts lately. Here is some info on mating behaviours and copulation

1. A female will most often initiate copulation by walking away from the group. A male follows close behind.
2. The female stops, lowers her head, and spreads her wings. This behavior is an invitation to the male to mount her.
3. Mating most often occurs in the water. The male jumps onto the female's back from behind, firmly planting his feet on her wing joints.
4. After mating, the male stands on the female's back, then jumps off over her head. He may then vocalize and shake his wings.

Sounds pretty much like what i saw yesterday.

Technically it is probably not the best shot, i know i clipped the wing on the left a bit. The Cloning on the right isnt too good either, but i feel that the shot shows some typical animal behaviour that people dont always see.

Are you kidding me Elize? This photo is great and it's a very good thing you posted it! You did extremely well! Okay, you clipped off the wing, but it doesn't really matter to me. I like the action shot a lot. You did very well. After all, 1 second later and you would have missed the action. TFS!

Elize, not the best? I don't think so. For me it's a great capture. Excellent moment, beautiful colours and sharpness. Wing is little cut off but so what ;-) ? I think one of your best - photo with soul.

I would certainly like to capture as bad a shot as this one someday! Wonderful job, Elize. TFS.

Nice shot Elize. I don't think that you need to be critical of the result that you obtained here.

Hi Elize, it looks like he is beating her into submission! Very nice capture and colours and composition are good. Inclusion of hte wing tips would have been desireable but very nice work.

Superbe prise de vue nature, une pose exceptionnelle de ces oiseaux, j'aurai aimé prendre cette photo.

Félicitations et bonne journée.

Hi Elize, wie sit op wie se kop hier? Is dit die mannetjie of die wyfie? :)

Its an exceptional moment you captured here in near perfection. I think the only nit would be the shutterspeed. 1/4000s is fast, maybe to fast for the action. It adds to the low key exposure. F5.6 @ 1/2000s might have given you more light and still forze the action. Take a look at the gull Mogens posted. 1/640s froze the gull in mid air.

Well done.
