Hello my Friends!
Still a lot of work to do, so today another picture from my archive. Really it was one of the first insect photo taken by me using Nikon Coolpix 5400 camera :)

Here is a male of European beewolf - Philanthus triangulum (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae) a solitary wasp hunting for bees.

Adults of this species are really "vegetarians" and eating mainly nectar of some flowers, so the English name "beewolf" is given because of the larval character of this species.

Females of Philanthus triangulum are looking for the honeybees on some flowers - just to paralize them using their stings and to lay eggs into the bees. Young larvae are placed in still alive "bee-pantries" and are eating them from inside.
Not really nice strategy, but it is an insect world ;>

This species is known from great part of Europe and N Africa, but generally it prefers rather warm areas.

Photo was taken in "Zadlowice" Nature Reserve, Spala Landscape Park.

A female specimen of this species was photographed by Ram (ramthakur) and presented here :)

As always any comments are welcommed :)

salut Radomir,
belle macro avec cette fois un grand écart du sujet :)
Très belle netteté qui permet de distinguer le pollen accumulé, bonne opposition de couleurs.

Hello Radomir,
This is a very nice and very sharp photo of a pollen covered wasp. The sun on the well focused eye works as a catch light. I know how difficult it is to photography always moving bees so congrats to you.

Greetings,
Ahmet

Bonjour,
Belle composition dans laquelle on voit bien le mode de pollinisation des fleurs.
Bonne journée.

Dear Radomir,
I was away and missed out on your latest exploit, a Beewolf!
And in this portrait you can see the individual pollen grains adhering to this animal. A treat for us TN watchers. Thanks for the good note, too.
I take it you had a good time in Zadlowice.
My best regards,
Dietrich

Bonjour Radomir

Photo très bien réussie de ce bourdon, belle composition et mise au point. J'ai beaucoup apprécié tes explications très instructives sur cet insecte que je vois pour la première fois et que je ne connaissais pas vraiment.
Merci et au revoir...JP

Hi Radomir.
Very impressive close-up of this beewolf. Details and sharpness of the insect as well as the richness of colours and light are great. I also like perfect composition of the picture. It is a pity a bit that white petals of the flowers are hardly OE but it is so difficult point. In any way presentation of this interesting insect including note is perfect. TFS and best regards.
Alexei.

Hello Ramdomir,
This is a great macro of this killer. I didn't know that wasps could kill bees... I like those details and composition. The white flowers are slightly OE but it is a minor nit for such a nice picture.

I read in the newspaper recently that we have a problem in Quebec with our bees as we lost 40% of the population which is sick from an unknown disease... This is nothing to reassure us as it is well known that when bees are not healthy, there is something going very wrong in nature. Scientists are studying this problem and I hope that they'll find the cause soon... I haven't seen one bee since spring and I have many apples trees on my lawn... Usually they are so numerous… This is kind of scary. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Radomir,

Greate picture of this wasp.
Great color, lighting and background.

Czesc,
Bardzo ladne sloneczne zdjecie. Fajnie ze zdjecie ma wyraznie zdefiniowana glebie ostrosci co nadaje mu lepsza plastycznosc niz gdyby bylo ostre od poczatku do konca.
Serdecznosci,
Michal

Hi Radomir,
Wasps are the biggest enemies of the bees. This particular species might be killing the bees in one way but the other species even eat them. Bee farmers have to be really careful of them.
Thanks for sharing this picture.
