Guten Morgen Sabine,
eine Super-Porträt von der Keiljungfer mit den weit getrennten Komplexaugen. Die Details gefallen mir. So sieht man, dass die Wimpern von der aufgetragenen Tusche etwas verklebt sind :-). Auch die drei Punktaugen (Ozellen) zwischen den kurzen Fühlern sind gut sehen.

Hi Sabine

Antoher splendid shot from you of this lovely Gomphus dragonfly.
This is indeed a magnificent portrait and the magnification level here is simply impressive!
The details you managed to get are fantastic and the great DOF that you used made sure everything was tech-sharp and well into focus.
The eyes and nose look perticularily terrific (by the way, the separate eyes are a characteristic feature of all dragonflies from the Gomphus genus) and i like the full-frontal POV.
Superbly done!

Hi Sabine,
this kind of eyes I have never seen before and I have shoot
100th of DF eyes. Well composed, good POV and nice colours.
The details are fine and the DOF is really good.
But I as I had said before you can lower the ISO and still use
the same camera setting as long as you use flash as main light,
with a fill-in light it will be another story.

Excellent picture of this dragonfly. Very interesting with the 3 dots between the eyes - wonder what they are for. I have never seen a dragonfly with separated eyes too so I cannot help with any ID. I do not think I have ever seen this one in Denmark.

Excellent sharpness/dof with very good details and well blurred background. The colours look very natural too.

What kind of lens and filters did you use?.

Sehr beindruckendes Libellen-Portrait, Sabine. Wirklich erstklassig fotografiert. Die Westliche Keiljungfer sieht wirklich sehr gefràssig aus. Sie hat allerdings schöne Augen, sie heisst ja auch "pulchellus".

Amazing macro Sabine. Incredible that you could get close enough to take the shot in teh first place. The sharpness and DOF are also amazing.
You know, until I joined TN I didn't know insects could be hairy, and this one has a sparse beard and a toupee, LOL.

Oh my God! How in the world did you get this close! This is outstanding! So many details! It looks like coming from another world!

Composition:

The composition is excellent! It looks like the dragonfly put its head into the lens! I appreciate you didn't frame the subject exactly in the middle! The well controlled DOF makes the face of the insect stand out well! I am amazed by the amount of the details you present here!

Colors:

The colors are bright and well saturated! They look natural! I had no idea these creatures were so colorful when looked at so closely.

Contrast:

Very good contrast to define all those details!

Exposure:

Exposure is outstanding! The excellent details were preserved in both shadows and highlights! I love those fine reflections in the eyes and in the skin!

Focus:

Accurate focus on the insect's face! The shallow DOF created a nice loss of sharpness in the dragonfly's body towards the rear end. The details in the foreground are razor sharp and very interesting!

This is an outstanding macro work! Very well done! Thanks for sharing!

Amazing macro showing sharp details of this dragon! Why do they look so nasty when you look at them too closely? If you stand back a bit further they look so friendly and smiling! (A bit like human faces I suppose!!)
ANyway, the face of this Gomphus is amazing, I've never seen anything like it! Superb!

Sabine:
An absolutely eye-popping image of this unsusual species. It shows the primitive widely separated eyes of this family (which can be seen also in ancient fossil dragonflies) to perfection. Very good use of flash, particularly in avoiding the "burn out" reflection you often get with dragonflies' compound eyes.
An outstanding macro study - well done.

I agree this ones look really from outer space :)
I shot one some time ago, which I thought might be this same one, but after having a closer look some shapes and colours of the face dont fit veru much, have a look HERE.
The shot is very well managed, with great use of available DOF and wonderful details. Colours are rich and saturated too. Excellent close up, TFS and best regards, Felipe.
