| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This photograph is not posted as a "good" one technically but how spotting something different about a flying bird can pay dividends. This bird was in a flock of about twenty landing at Martin Mere and I was after flying pictures. They were about a hundred yards away and I was following them with the camera and saw the unusual marking on this one and fired off a series of pictures. When I got them up on the computer it showed the neck ring, which incidentally I do not like, and the very visible numbers. I reported the find to the warden and it was the first time reported. Evidently there was another with a pink tube. There were a lot of twitchers looking for it next time I went. Incidentally, getting feedback about the bird from the BTO is hopeless. It takes them months, if they bother at all.
Camera settings:- ISO 200, Auto white balance, 2x converter, Spot metering, AV, 1200mm focal length, remote shutter cord ( I tape the shutter release gadget to the handle of the video head on the tripod so it fits under my thumb, ready). |
