Peacock

These male Peacocks are always so beautiful, even with their tails drooping or when they are high in full display. This fellow at the Auckland Zoo performed just for us – we were the only females around!

The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen.

The term peafowl can refer to any of three species of bird in the genera Pavo and Afropavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae. They are most notable for the male's extravagant tail, which it displays as part of courtship.

The three species are:
Indian Peafowl, Pavo cristatus (Asiatic) which this peacock is.
Green Peafowl, Pavo muticus (Asiatic)
Congo Peafowl, Afropavo congolensis (African)

I really love this portrait of your peacock and the angle he is holding his head showing off his gorgeous colours. He is a real beauty. Detail, lighting and composition is excellent.

Hi Janice, this is a very nice pov of the Peacock showing his fine tail. It can be difficult to capture the full glory of this bird with a good perspective that doesn't crowd the vision. You have done it here. Wonderful colours, nice detail and sharpness. Very good composition.
