Pronghorn
Antilocapra Americana

Second fastest land mammal comes right after cheetah on the list.

Just a beautiful animal that looks striking in it natural habitat, this animal has little fear of any predator overcoming it in a race for survival, these artiodactyls can cruise at very fast speeds not to mention that they are pretty good leapers to.

The pronghorn is the only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae, and the fastest mammal in North America running at speeds of 60 mph (90 km/h)and the second fastest land mammal, second only to the cheetah. The pronghorn is also known as the pronghorn antelope, but is not a true antelope. It is a unique animal with no close relatives. Both the males' and the females' horns are made up of a hairlike(keratin) substance that grows around a bony core; the outer sheath is shed annually.

Hi Paul. This is a simply wonderful alpine composition. The setting and clarity are excellent. TFS. Murray.

Hey, Paul. I've added this one as a favourite as it's a great, clean image of an unstressed animal. We have pronghorns here, but they are quite rare, and I've never gotten close enough to even think of using the camera. Our pronghorns in Canada tend to look ragged and older, 'unshaven', ha ha. Excellent background.

Hello Paul,
What a superb capture of an animal I see almost everyday, the sharpness, colors and out of focus background all come together for this excellent image.

What a beauty, Paul.
You captured it very well, with perfect side POV against the BG of the mountains. The details are wonderful. This is the first time I have seen a pronghorn in such close-up. Those horns are fantastic!

Hola Paul,
Preciosa imagen de bella composición, la luz y los colores son muy bonitos, la nitidez y fondo excelentes. Saludos

The pronghorn are so pretty before they start to lose their winter coats. Then they could hardly look scruffier. This is a nice sharp image of this young one. We've found that when we come across one alone, one can get quite close but it they are in a group they are very skittish.

Hello Paul,
What a lovely animal and you caught it very well. I didn't know Pronghorn before your great shot. It seems like our Chamois... I suppose that it is snow behind ? As usual with you, we learn and we can have pleasure of eyes.
Bravo and thanks my friend of USA.

Paul, you keep on doing an amazing job.

Exposure is a winner. Besides, excellent pov, composition and colors.

A very pleasing image.

Congratulations.

Hello Paul,
It looks indeed like a unique animal! I can't find a resemblance with another one really. I have never heard that this was the second fastest animal on the planet. This is a nice composition with the animal entering the frame with as excellent details and exposure. Thanks for presenting us this unusual fellow :)

Hey "Dude" :)))

Another splendid shot from you!
This is indeed a very beautiful animals but sadly we don't see to many photos of it here in TN.
I really like your POV here as well as the terrific DOF that you used - that also allowed some details in the BG, just enough for a good habitat impression.
The exposure is spot-on - as always - the natural colors are lovely and the details crispy clear - again, as usual :)

By the way...now that you've changed your name, i remembered that i wanted to ask you about your real one...it sounds very Romanian-ish :)

Anyway, Bravo and TFS

Hi Paul

An excellent capture of this fine young specimen. The pronghorn is a beautiful animal that zoologically fits somewhere between the deer and the antelopes, but probably closer to deer. There are far too little photos of this animal on TN. I could only find 7 other postings showing it.

As usual the photo was shot with amazing controll over all aspects. With other words, taken with the utmost technical perfect results. Great colours, remarkable details, perfect lighting control, and a fine composition.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Beautiful image Paul.
The Pronghorn looks mid-step, excellent POV. Excellent detail, color, exposure, DOF, and sharpness. The OOF BG adds greatly to the overall composition as well :) Very well done.
Howard

Hi Paul,
What a beautiful pictureeeee!!!! I like the very nice and snowy patchs in BG; the pronghorn is with perfect focus and well placed in the image. A gift for the eyes.
This Antilocapridae, the last survival of a ancient linege has the fast running speed because an evolutive adaption: in the past in North America there were many predators, one of them a giant cheetah, that became extinct 10.000 years ago with the end of last ice age maximum.
Greetings

Hello Paul,
One of the finest shots on this website. Very sharp image against beautiful background where animal stands out very well.
