[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Whitebreasted Kingfisher, Halcyonsmyrnensis, is a brilliiant turquoise-blue kingfisher with deep chocolate-brown head, neck and underparts, a conspicuous white "shirt front", and long heavy pointed red bill. In flight black and white patches are visible on blue wings.

It's one of the most familiar of our kingfishers. it's usually seen at ponds, puddles, paddyfeilds etc. It eats fish, tadpoles, small crabs, lizards and grasshoppers. I've seen it pouncing down on the prey and flying off with it to a nearby perch where the prey is battered to death and swallowed. The nesting season is March to July. The nest is ahorizontal tunnel dug into the side of a dry earth cutting.

After a lapse of few days, we had a sunny morning and I went out to the feilds hoping to get atleast one decent shot. To my surprise i got not only one but several. The first one I came across was this beautiful Kingfisher feeding its young one. Unfortunately I couldn't photograph the juvenile, but I did manage to get the parent. It was sitting on an outstretched branch of a tree looking out for crawlies on the ground.
Thanks for looking at the picture.
Regards,
Smitha.

Hello Smitha,
Very nice capture, POV and colours . I also like frame. Good work!

You have used your powerful lens very effectively, Smitha. The image of this extremely beautiful Kingfisher is without a blemish. The focus is precise, the colours are brilliant and the entire composition is a joy to behold.
Envy you for the plentiful nature around you!
Regards.

Hi Smitha, that is a really nice shot of a lovely bird. TFS.

Smitha,

The white breasted Kingfisher is a beauty to look at. It is unusual for it to sit on a low single perch. You have captured this very well with catch light and all.
