The pose of this hoopoe here is excellent and it also gave you plenty of clearance for the BG in order to blurr it very nicely.
The details on the bird are fantastic and very clear and the natural colors are wonderful!

Bonito eso de apupu, en Catalunya se la denomina puput, supongo que los dos en referencia a al sonido que emite. Son huidizas estas señoras por lo que cazarla como lo has hecho ya tiene su mérito. Excelente enfoque, no se que ´"cañón" has utilizado ...
Mi bicho , al que votaste, creo que es algo rarillo y escaso, a ver si algún experto nos dice algo más ya que en internet he encontrado poca cosa. Saludos y sigue haciendo tan buenas fotos: J. Ignasi Tejedor

Hola Victor,

What a beauty you have captured here! You present it to us in all its splendor! I've been dreaming of photographing a hoopoe for a long time but they are pretty scarce here. I only saw 2 or 3 birds of this kind in my life. A pity the support was not a branch or some kind of natural object.

Composition:

A well isolated and placed subject that shows us an excellent profile makes always a great composition! The outstanding eye contact makes the photo even more engaging. I would have loved it to see the crest fully erected! The long, thin beak gives it away this guy is feeding on insects rather than seeds. The background is fabulous and compliments your shot very well.

Colors:

The very beautiful pink sand colors make this picture appealing. Having the same color tones in the background leads to a more uniform presentation. The blacks and whites just add the needed diversity.

Contrast:

Wonderful contrast to shape every feather in the plumage. I like the brighter background behind the head of the bird as it increases the contrast with the slightly darker colors of the plumage.

Exposure:

The exposure is spot on! You correctly exposed both the whites and the blacks resulting in excellent details. It seems that using a tripod makes the difference even if the shutter speed is short enough to shoot handheld. You also captured great catchlights even without using a flashlight.

Focus:

Excellent focus on the subject with outstanding control of DOF. This rendered sharp details and created a superbly blurred background. Very well done!

A great posting with very useful notes! Just one question: how can you tell this was a juvenile and not an adult? Thanks for sharing!

Este és mi pájaro preferido!
Aqui en Madeira solo lo vemos en la Isla de Porto Santo (isla de que hace parte el arquipiélago de Madeira).
Me encante su porte, el estilo, los colores y la forma como vuela, muy delicado. Ahh!! y la popa ( aqui lo llamamos vulgarmente de Poupa o topete en español) por las plumas levantadas en la cabeza.
Extraordinária toma, con una nitidez fantástica y un desfoque del segundo plano muy bien conseguido.
Te felicito Vicma, haz captado toda su elegancia. (solo 2 puntos és poco, para mí es 20).
