Hi,

According to the information I found on Garden spiders(black-and-yellow argiope spider -Argiope aurantia), this one matches the Garden Spider. I spent quite sometime looking for its ID but couldn’t finalize.

This must have been about 5mm, so this must be the male garden Spider. I would welcome any help on the confirming the ID.

On a closer look this one looked more like a Backpacker– climbing down the palm leaf (Please do see the Workshop collage to see him from other angles especially its back...). It also looks like it has a hat on its head and is growing a beard (maybe my imagination!!!)

The Garden Spider is mostly seen among shrubbery, tall plants, and flowers in meadows and gardens. This one was found two days ago in the campus garden on a leaf of the small palm planted in a corner.

They are known to prefer sunny sites with little or no wind. It drops to ground and hides if disturbed and that’s exactly what it started doing when it realized I was trying to take a picture .He just kept going under the leaf jumping up and down and then climbing here and there literally making me jump and go around the palm with him quite a few times.

My handicam won’t let me zoom in any more, but I did like this look of the little spider and thought of sharing it with you.

Thanks for stopping by!!!
