[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When the Glen Canyon Dam became operational on the Colorado River in 1963, the consequences were "monumental". Close to one-hundred major side canyons were flooded, Anasazi cliff dwellings were submerged... It was the price to be paid for the urban sprawls in the desert southwest. What replaced the canyons and the ruins was Lake Powell, the second largest reservoir in USA. Hikers were out, boaters were in...

The global warming-induced droughts over the last several years have forced all but one of the boat ramps on Lake Powell to be closed in 2006. It's anyone's guess whether the water level in the lake will be sustainable in years to come. So it seems that Glen Canyon is making a come-back, and what you see in this photograph may soon become history.

Dams are no longer built in the USA, but in other parts of the world, we
continue to sacrifice our natural and cultural heritage.

Photo note: Sunset hours. Mirror locked-up. Low-level smart sharpening applied on CS2. No color enhancement. Minor contrast increase for TN upload.

Nick..

Merhaba Hakan,
Stunning and colorful landscape!
Very impressive the colours got here, the vivid indigos and purples of water and sky makes a vibrant contrast against the warm and almost redish tones on the mountains.
Very good the sharpness and DOF of the picture.
As always, so interesting the info in your notes.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,

Great landscape with stunning colors. The DOF is perfect and the composition is very balanced with sky, rock, land and water. A very good eye!

Hi Hakan,
Whenever someone mentions the subject of dam building it brings back memories of when protesters stopped the building of a dam in Australia's Tasmanian wilderness years ago. That will certainly go down in history, a major achievement us Greenies.

As for your image it is superb, such beautiful colours. Impressive.

Cheers,
Debbie

Hi Hakan.
Very beautiful. Awesome colour and light. Great composition and sharpness. Very well done.

Hi
I like the fact that you use only minor post treatment adjustments. I think they are abused by many!

This is beautiful Hakan whit such interesting note. Unfortunately, this kind of situation exists all across the world and this is a pity.

I'm amazed by those colors. This picture almost looks like it was heavily processed but I know that it's not. Details, exposure and DOF are impressive in a great composition.

This is a very good and educative post. Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Hakan

Nice to see you posting again, my friend! It's been a while :)
This is again a splendid shot from you, one with magnificent tones and colors everywhere!
I really like the composition and perspective here as well as the exposure that made sure you'd capture all these charming colors and that you'd have them so well saturated. All the horizontal lines and layers here are also terrific and add texture to the compo.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Dear Hakan!
Another fantastic composition and this time almost... historical as I can read. Very interesting note, it is also showing what we - humans do with the Earth...
According to the picture I have to say that it is - al always - a pleasure to watch it. I really like sunset pictures, they can be often characterized by warm and beauty colours, fantastic light, ect. And all these elements are present in this composition. The red colours of rocks are really amazing in this light. Great, panoramic view shows the real beauty of this place. And what is also nice - it is a very good "break" from desert pictures ;>
Thank you for showing this amazing photo and have a nice afternoon!
Regards,
Radomir

Hello Hakan,
So here comes a true magnum opus from your lens after a fairly long hiatus on your part, my friend!
Using stereotyped words to appreciate this picture would be an insult to its true worth, so I would end up by saying that you have obliged the TN community by sharing it.

The power-hungry India goes on building dams across rivers, especially in the Himalayan region, destroying everything. A whole ancient town with its marvellous architectural edifices dating back by millennia was submerged into the first-ever dam built by free India. We lost the famous old town of Bilaspur located on the banks of the river Satluj for ever. The irony of it is that the purpose of the entire undertaking turned kaput in the long run; the dam is now so heavily silted it would be better to blow it off. Another ancient town in Tehri-Garhwal was submerged into a dam recently. The story of devastation goes on . . .
Best regards.
Ram

Beautiful view to behold, the water and the red shade to the canyon gives one hell of an outstanding view, well taken.

Excellent colors, saturation and sharpness.

I do enjoy composition too.

Hi Hakan,
I am glad you posted another of your wonderful photos again. The richness of the colors by the sunset light are really beautiful. The scenery is something very spectacular, and who knows, will become even more spectacular in the future. But I can't stop worry what will happen if this water supply is gone.

Hello Hakan!
What an impressive and beautiful shot!
Are those colors natural? It's so amazing!
Excellent perspective and composition.
Dams may be very necessary, but mean a great loss of ecosystems and a danger for many species. How do they do in the USA to do without them?
Greetings
Maite

Hola Hakan.

Buenos detalles de este inmenso paisaje, que tiene muchos contrastes.
Llama mi atención la sequedad del lugar y el agua del rio que baña sus orillas...
