My Apology
Thanks to Ivan (Argus)he Id the Bird like a juvenile Raven, not a Grackle.

Across its range in the northern hemisphere, and throughout human history, the Common Raven has been a powerful symbol and a popular subject of mythology and folklore.

It has long been considered a bird of ill omen and associated with death. As a carrion eater known to feed on humans killed by warfare or execution, the Common Raven became associated with the dead and with lost souls; in Sweden, ravens are known as the ghosts of murdered people, and in Germany as the souls of the damned.

Many indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America revered it as a god; in Tlingit and Haida cultures, Raven was both a Trickster and Creator god. The Vikings believed that ravens Hugin and Munin sat on the god Odin's shoulders and saw and heard all, and a Raven banner standard was carried by such Viking figures as the Norse Jarls of Orkney, King Canute the Great of England, Norway and Denmark, and Harald Hardrada. There are several references to Common Ravens in the Old Testament of the Bible and it is an aspect of Mahakala in Bhutanese mythology.

Hi Lawhill,

A very nice close-up of this very noisy bird. The colors are wonderful - you caught the shine of the plummage. Very good details - the head and eye are excellent.

Hello Lawhill,
Fine capture of a juvenile Raven, not a Grackle. This is sharp and well composed with a pleasing contrasting BG.

Nick..

Hello Lawhill , excellent Raven profile photo , interesting colors , TFS

WOW! The Native Americans here on the coast side of Washington have made your note page. They were and still remain a very tenacious group of NA"s. Where places like the plains of the Dakotas have met with negatives, those on reservations and beyond...here and in British Columbia are pro-active.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo, blended well with the notes....made it great!

Hello Lawhill

Lucky you,I have been trying to get a good photo of a raven for some time now. They are very clever birds. You have managed to get a good close up with very good detail in the plumage.Good eye contact with catch light too.The lighting is harsh, but the plumage detail is very good.TFS

Have you ever wondered how some creatures become so vilified? It's just not fair! ha ha

This is great great capture of a fascinating bird.

Hello Lawhill,
This is a nice capture of this mysterious bird. I really enjoyed reading your interesting notes about them. Details and exposure are good and so is this POV. My only nit is that I would have let a little more space in front of the bird as I think that this crop is a little tight. This is a nice one anyway with great management with this dark color :) Thanks,
Claudine
