I have never seen this bird before and have no idea what it is. I hate to post birds on feeders but this one didn't stay still for a second except while eating. The chest is the same color as above and below the wings. No other color on it at all. It was larger than a sparrow.

Hi Jane,
Wonderful shot of this bird. A nice moment captured. Sharp details on its body and neat focus. Nice natural tones and lighting. I like your POV, BG and the glint on its eyes. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Jane,
This looks like a female Hepatic Tanager: my main reason for this suggestion is the dark bill and lack of wing stripes.
I agree with you about avoiding feeders, but here we are trying to get the ID right. Otherwise thia is a sharp and well composed shot.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Yes, the resemblance with a female sparrow is quite striking, Jane.
But then you have a bit of guidance from Ivan and he is rarely wrong. Follow it up with a bit of research.
The image is well captured from the rear, giving a nice view of its plumage.
TFS.

Hi Jane, I don't know the id of this bird, but i's beaiutiful, splendid sharpness and great pose, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Hi Jane,
A very good capture of this bird!
I like so much the beautiful light you had there and the way you managed to catch it with the very appropiated exposure settings.
Got beautiful details on the plumage, and the catchlight on the eye.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hello Jane,
Nice photo of this female Hepatic Tanager (I think Ivan (Argus) is right. The beak ain't the beak of a sparrow, but from a tanager. Nice composition and BG.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Jane,
Beautiful photo! Focus is outstanding. Excellent details and nice glint of light in eye. Great exposure and a rich brown with complimentary background color. I looked but I could not find ID. I do not think it is a female Hepatic Tanager as some have suggested. (Female has olive-green upperparts and yellow-orange underparts with gray wash on flanks).

This is a good website for bird ID:

Hello Jane,
This looks like another female sparrow or perhaps I'm wrong. Very nice sharp capture and good colours.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hello Jane

Wow Jane,

This is one of your best pictures, so nice! Please pardon me but my time is limited, I have no time for a proper critique. Well done.
