[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello my Friends!
Today I would like to present you a very unique type of terrestrial habitats - salt marshes.

This type of habitat is rather rarely photographed and presented on TN. Usually there is nothing "monumental" in these places like mountaints or sea-cliffs, very often there is even no trees. Moreover - usually these areas are rather "flat" ;>

They are often restricted to the zone on the border of sea/ocean and the land. Sometimes this zone takes place even several kilometers from the sea. On the other hand it is known that in many places such areas are also present in the middle of continents.
This one on the picture is really "next to the sea" - Adriatic Sea.


But what is so special in salt marshes?

Well, the answer is really simple. This type of habitat can be characterized by very special conditions and thanks to them by very special fauna and flora. Organisms which are living in such places are strongly salt tolerant and often are named "halophylic". A good example of halophilic beetle (photographed in Ukraine by occurring also in this place) was presented by me here.

Moreover, salt marshes areas are one of the most biologically productive terrestrial habitats on the planet, next to tropical rainforests. The main reason is that the natural chemical activity of waters (both salty and brakish), observed in such places, is very huge.

On the other hand these areas are really very delicate, and almost all kind of human activity can be destructive for them. As a result of such situation in the USA and Europe saltmarshes are protected by the Habitat Directive and Clean Water Act.

Hi Radomir.
You write, that the in these landscape isn't nothing attractive,but your postcard is very interesting.This landscape be wrapped up hard for life,but at sight is beautiful thanks your amazing presentation.Very nice composition,good details on little vegetation and very pleasant pallete of colors.I like it a lot.Well done this your postcard and very good note(as usual).

An especially hard place to take a good landscape photo but you handled it well. One has to make magic words and mystic notations to liven up a salt marsh for sure. On drives across the US I abhor the long drive across the S end of the Salt Lake.

You make it look very good with tufts of green and hopeful mountains in the distance hold a gleam of potable water....as I am sure brackish water would kill one...

I think you included a lot of diverse elements in this shot so that it is really quite interesting. I'm wondering if it is just an illusion or is there some barrel distortion in this image? I did a workshop on it to see how it would look without that apparent curvature of the seawall and midground.

Witam raz jeszcze

Tym razem bardzo ciekawe slonawiska. Wiem jak takie miejsca zwykle wygladaja wiec wiem jak jest trudno zrobic taka fotke aby to nie wygladalo jak plaski kawal spalonego blota z pedzelkami solirodu tu i tam.

Ujecie bardzo fajne z ladnym domknieciem kompozycji kepka solirodu na dole po prawej i gorami w tle po lewej na gorze

Thank you for taking something often overlooked and bringing it to our attention. This photo has wonderful curves and great color. We can take the mundane and make it magical with a camera.

I have just come back from the salt marshes on the Norfolk coast!! - I also photographed 2 species of seals and saw a Marsh Harrier - quite rare here.

A great illustrative shot, showing the main feature of this important habitat.

Hello Radomir,
Death Valley has several spots, one being Badwater, whose photo appears in my gallery. It also contains an aptly named Salty Creek, which is the home of some endemic fish species. Your photos shows an interesting such area from Albania. I like the pov which presents the characteristics of the place rather well. Regards,
