Fungus
Crimson helmet, Mycena ura or uru. I have seen it called both ura and uru.
The name celebrates its bright crimson-red colouring, ura, Maori for the colour of pohutukawa flowers. Mycena ura is common and widespread in NZ forests and easily recognized by its crimson-red colouring and the fact that the stem bleeds red sap when broken.
CAP: 3-20mm diameter, deeply convex to bell-shaped, brilliant crimson-red, darker in centre to pink at margin.
GILLS: Adnexed, pale pink, edged with a red line that fades with age.
STEM: 15-80mm high, 2-3mm diameter, more or less cylindrical, slightly swollen at base; bright red, paler at top and darkening to base, base clothed in coarse red hairs, bleeds red sap when broken.
RING: Absent
FLESH: Thin, red.
SPORE: White
HABITAT: Found on fallen twigs and branches in all types of native forest.
Fruiting season mainly in the autumn.

HibKathy,
It looks as though you were lucky to find these in not too dark a location.
I've only ever seen them in very dark spots, and not been able to get very good focus on them, such is the fickleness of auto focus (especially with reds in low light).
You've done a great job here.
Plenty of detail and good colour. The stem is nice and clear too.
Nice work.
Steve

Hola Kathleen, gracias por tu comentario. Tienes una bella galería de fotos. Este en particular tiene una composición muy bonita. Buen POV y DOF. Un saludo y TFS.

Hi Kathleen,

What a beautiful fungis. Lightning is fabulous. Thats piece of wood in front of the photo, make its special. BG and POV are OKé. And I do use the words of LordPotty (Steve) "You've done a great job here" Regards and TFS Bob

The red fungi against a green background really make your subject pop Kathleen. Focus is excellent and the wood to the left of it really compliments the overall composition.

Hi Kathleen

A wonderful shot of these Crimson helmets with a great quality scan and PP work. Well done.

The exposure levels really makes this shot comes to life with nice soft lighting on the fungi and somewhat brighter light on the BG to liven up the greens which created a lovely contrasting colour for the red subjects. The details are nice and sharp and the colour saturation is excellent. The composition and POV is good with the dark piece of wood on the left hand side running along almost at the same angle as the fungi stems.

Good work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Great composition - you really pulled these two out on their own. :) Wonderful colors - that red is different.
Interesting subjects. I think maybe it's normally too hot for us to have much fungi, but with the recent rains I might have to go out and look. :)

Great job converting from slide to digital
Superb composition and excellent sharpness and DOF.
Beautiful fungi well captured and presented.

Chris

Must be a Fungi type of day...I sure like the colors in this depiction. I did mine in my artsy mode to create a mystical tale...but it is always nice seeing the real deal.

Good composition as well as adding your own special touches.

Hi Kathleen,
this is a very beautiful looking pair of mushrooms with wonderful colour and good details.New Zealand has some of the most colourful mushrooms there are and this capture is equally as good as that blue one you previously uploaded,I marked as a favorite.Tfs. Bob

Hi Kathleen,
Wow what great colors do these mushrooms have. Just like jelly fish in water. Just beautifully captured. Thanks a lot for sharing.

This is a very nice shot of a beautiful specie. The capture is very well managed.
You chose very well the angle, and used a correct exposure.
