Hi Kathy,
Always nice to see a true wildshot and I think you got very close to him.
Good composition and pov.
I did a little workshop, hope you like it.

Hi Kathy,
Another great shot of a splendid wild creature.
The focus on the buck is fine, although there is a slight bluish cast in the picture.
Even on overcast days it sometimes pays to set the white balance on your camera for sunny.
This will give you a warmer picture (less blue) and cancel out UV glare to some extent.
I don't know if you could have got higher ... it would have been good not to have too much OOF (out of focus) features in the foreground, but sometimes it can't be avoided.
In post processing you could reduce the blue a little and perhaps darken and sharpen the image slightly too.
Although I don't mind centred shots myself, there is a general rule in photography that the subject should be placed about 1/3 of the way across the picture for best impact.
It has to do with the way we look at photos and the way our brains process visuals.
Ideally you'd crop behind the subject, theoretically providing space ahead for the subject to (imaginarily ???) to move into.
I've done a workshop to give you some idea what I mean. Hope you like it.
I don't necessarily always follows the rules myself, but sometimes it works well.
You'll learn on TN as quick as if you did a course on photography. I've never done one myself, just learnt from folks here.
Look forward to seeing how your photos develop as you learn more skills.
Cheers, Steve

A great shot of course....and nice workshop pvb... It's like apples and oranges usually...but both are truly good works..and I agree with Steve..lots of learning here on TN...even for us old folks who think we know everything...we find out how little we know soon.
Nice job Kathy.....thank Bob for me too will ya?:-)

He is a nice buck and you have good focus on him. I probably would have cropped out more of the foreground that isn't in focus. That way you'd have less of the unfocussed distraction.

Gorgeous shot - he's so regal with those magnificent antlers. And that expression is great! :)

Hello Kathy -
This is a very nice image and it is well composed. I do like the diagonal hill slope as it makes the image less static. I don't particularly like the powerline just behind the buck but there is little you can do about that. IMO, there is a bit too much OOF foreground for my taste. The buck is sharply in focus so there should be no concern but I notice a bit color cast to the image that should be removed (the first WS is a perfect correction). Otherwise, well done.
Thank you for sharing.
John
