The reason for posting this not so composition wise good capture of this garden lizard is that this idiot was repeatedly hitting the ground of laterite stone. You could see the closeup of its face. After it left the area I saw nothing interesting there. At first I thought it might be digging the ground to eat some insect. No insect nothing only hard laterite rock it is painful to walk there in bare feet. It is still a mystery to me. Can anybody explain why it was doing that?

I wonder if he was hitting his head like that as a threatening gesture. Some animals will paw the ground. Deer will rattle their antlers against tree limbs. Maybe he was threatening you.

Thanks for sharing. Reid

Hi Haraprasan.
You are sure getting the eyeball from this lizard, good pose to capture. Sorry, not sure what his behaviour was for. Please do let us know if you find out, I would be interested knowing why. Good detail of him and the environment.

Hello Haraprasan,
Nice capture of an Asian garden Lizard.
I have seen Agamid lizards cocking their heads up and down as a display gesture in Africa: maybe the behaviour of this lizard can have a similar explanation.
Pity about the green stem in the main shot. Nice to see the enclosed shot showing the head in more detail.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Great details! Good shot...I'm going to do some internet searches about the behavior of lizards. ha ha The things we'll google! ha ha

hi haraprasan,
i really appreciate your involvement. you observation is very good and you spend a lot of time exploring the nature, even i do not have any clue about the behaviour of this lizard, i have seen lizard moving their head up and down but this behaviour is strange,
nice capture, interesting notes, I think during my next visit to bhubaneswar i will carry my camera along to have some share of beautiful specimens at cuttack and bbsr,

Hi Haraprasan,

Maybe he was abused as a child? That seems to be the answer when people do these things. Nice shot of this lizard in spite of the diagonal piece of grass running thru it. Nice colors, details, and setting.

Jane

Yes, He was trying to throw you off Haraprasan :) Nice sharp detail, I like the eye contact and bit of catchlight I see. Great presentation with inset closeup.
Well done!
Howard

This is exactly the same lizard as I shot a few days back here in Noida, HP.
The image is pretty good.
Your description of its odd behavior is quite interesting. Maybe it was showing disgust at itself for some foolishness recently committed :-)!

Hola Haraprasan.
Buena presentación con muy buenos detalles.
Perfectos colores bien ajustados.
Saludos y tfs, JL.

Haraprasan,
This, my dear friend, is a female; she needed a safe place to dig a hole, a hot location, to lay her eggs.
Note that her back has "spikes" but they are not webbed.
Note the backs of these two males.
The males have stronger backs and are more colourful too.
The latter are fighting for "female" rights.
I've observed this behaviour many many times. In fact this is one of the ways in which we, as children, managed to collect lizard eggs, by following her around.
It was all done in innocent fun. In those days we had no sense of responsibility and or respect for nature. Today I write it off as "childish behaviour".
