Black Headed Gull
For a change this is not a duck.
The Black-headed Gull is the most widely distributed seabird breeding in Britain and Ireland, with similar numbers breeding inland as on the coast. The majority of the breeding population are resident throughout the year, with numbers being greatly bolstered during the winter months by birds from northern and eastern Europe, especially in the east and southeast of England. Black-headed Gulls breed throughout the middle latitudes of the Palaearctic and have recently formed a breeding outpost in north eastern North America. Britain and Ireland hold approximately 6% of the world breeding population.
Black-headed Gulls tend to nest on open ground and occasionally in low trees and bushes, in colonies of anywhere from a few to over 10,000 apparently occupied nests.
Habitats such as wetlands, bogs, marshes and artificial ponds are favoured breeding sites, but dry areas adjacent to water are also used.

Gorgeous in flight shot. Nice sharp details. Background is a bit bland but does enough to make the gull stand out.

Very nice flying gull picture Michael. Good composition and very clear details. POV is very nice too. Yesterday I took a picture of a flying blackheaded gull too and it looks like your picture. Will post if one of these days. Well done on this nice picture. TFS!

Very good flight shot Michael. Very nice composition, well blurred background, nice sharpness, very good colours and clever handling of the light - well, it is burned on the right wing but they are very difficult to get right in hard sun. All over a very nice picture to look at.

Congrats on 100th post, Michael. This inflight is very hard to get right but you managed very well. I see some chromatic abberation on the wing. Adrian posted a nice write up of getting rid of it in the tips & techniques section of the forum if you are interested. Very well done.
