First of all I would like to say thanks to each and everyone who did take a view and those who did comment on my previous uploads. Much appreciated.

This shot of a juvenile White Tailed Eagle, who just cought a fish, and is attacked by a, and please correct me if I'm wrong, Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) I did take while travelling a board a small boat through the fjords of the Province of Nord Trondelag in Norway.

It happens often that one of the many gulls around does attack an eagle.
They prefer to attack the juvenile ones because they might be intimidated faster, wich was'nt the case with this youngster.
He just did flew on if nothing did happen and after a while the gull gave up :)

More information about the White Tailed Eagle you can find as note at my previous upploads of this majestic bird.

The Great Black-backed Gull, Larus marinus, is a very large gull which breeds on the European and North American coasts and islands of the North Atlantic. It is fairly sedentary, but some Great Black-backed Gulls move further south or inland to large lakes or reservoirs.

This is the largest gull, much bigger than a Herring Gull. It is 61-74 cm long with a 1.4 to 1.7 m wingspan. It is bulky, and has a powerful bill. The adults have black wings and back, with conspicuous white "mirrors" at the wing tips. The legs are pinkish, and the bill yellow with a red spot.

Young birds have scaly black-brown upperparts, and a neat wing pattern. They take at least four years to reach maturity, development in this species being somewhat slower than that of other large gulls. The call is a deep "laughing" cry.

These are omnivores like most Larus gulls, and they will scavenge as well as seeking suitable small prey. They frequently rob other seabirds of their catch. It can swallow a puffin or a small wild duck whole.

This species breeds singly or in small colonies, making a lined nest on the ground often on top of a rocky stack. 3-5 eggs are laid.

Thanks in advance for viewing and comments.

Warm regards,

Harry

Hi harry,
excellant capture of action shot with good composition and well sharp, well done

Stunning image with perfect focus and clarity. Not surprised on seeing this sort of attack - when territory or nests in jeopardy even much smaller birds take on big predators.
Astonishing nevertheless. A job well done, there, Harry!

Hello Hqrrym
Superb decisive moment.
Well composed.
The gull knows what it is doing, I guess, avoiding the sharp claws...
Well doen

Hello Harry,
Great action shot!
I like the configuration of the wings of both the greater Black-backed Gull and the juvenile White-tailed Eagle, taken at just the right moment. The gull is perfectly exposed, while the darker eagle inevitably a little under, but this looks natural. Fine sharpness and composition making another masterpiece from you!
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Harry,

A fantastic action shot. What timing to freeze them in these positions. The gull must be yapping away but it doesn't seem to bother the eagle. Exellent details, colors, and background.

Wow, what a fantastic photo! You managed to capture a great moment here and those photos are the best in my opinion.

Also perfect technique with great sharpness, exposure and composition. Maybe I would have copped it a little bit different but I am not sure....

Hi Harry
this is surely the best picture of a flying Great Black-backed Gull I have ever seen. Exposure and compo as usual perfect. What a shame that the eye contact with the Eagle is missing. I would have liked to have some information what fish species this is ;-)
Great picture anyway
Tfs

There's so much going on in this photo - it's great! The fish in the talons, the gull on his back...and each aspect is is wonderfully detailed and focused. Great!!!

Hi Harry,
This photo has it all. A great nature shot! Not only is the eagle in flight, but he has a fish. Not only does the inflight eagle have a fish, but he is being chased by a gull. All captured with perfect focus and outstanding detail. The exposure is also impressive considering the range of colors. Outstanding final composition. BRAVO!

Hello Harry.
Superb action shot, love the gulls' grit attempting to get the eagle to drop his catch. Very well composed and sharp focus, thanks.

Excellent photo Harry!
Great notes!
That was my lesson for today! ;)
How long did you have to wait before you captured the image?

Elton

Besides the obvious intent of the attak it also look as though the seagull is gonna land on top of the raptors back in this excellent capture. Very nicely done Henry. :)

Hello Harry,
Special image, not something you see everyday. Interesting aggressive behavior you show us..Highly competitive out there.
Very good exposure, color, details, and composed well. Great job on the PP also.
Very well done.
Howard

Wow...great image Harry...Gull adds significantly to create a behavioral study...like the fish too...makes you wonder weather the gull is trying to get the eagle to drop it or wether it just the defense mechanism triggered. Best, Brat.

Hello Harry , excellent capture of real wildlife moment , TFS.

Hi Harry,
Amazing scene... You are lucky to have the opportunity to see these animals in action! And of course, TFS such a wonderful picture! Marta

Wow, interesting moment!
Thank you for sharing, Harry!

And here I am once again :)
And a again just short comment to this fantastic documentary picture.
To see such situation is enough to feel good, but to photograph... :) What can I say more - I like this mobile and dramatic photograph a lot.
Additional bravo for the interesting note. For the first view I though that the gull is attacking because the eagle flies next to gull's nest. But as soon as I read your note I had to look at the picture once again because the situation is totally different! And thanks a lot Harry for showing this unique attack!
Best greetings,
Radomir

Hello Harry,
amazing capture; sharpness, colors, light, composition, everything is excellent ! Very well done

Great shot! You seem to be an expert in capturing nature in the midst of action!! Nice composition. But I think the eagle is a little too much dark, it would have been better if a little more details were visible. May be it is because it is very difficult to give correct exposure to both the dark eagle and white gull. Anyways, great work.
