Die Hainschwebfliege (Episyrphus balteatus), auch bekannt als Winterschwebfliege, gehört zur Familie der Schwebfliegen. Sie kann leicht mit einer Wespe verwechselt werden, da sie ihr Aussehen täuschend ähnlich imitiert. Eine solche Eigenart nennt man Mimikry. Beim genauerem Hinschauen erkennt man jedoch sofort, dass die Hainschwebfliege wie auch verwandte Arten nur zwei Flügel besitzt. Man stellt sie deshalb zu den Zweiflüglern, den Diptera. Die Wespe jedoch besitzt vier Flügel und wird zu den Hautflüglern (Hymenoptera) gestellt. Auffällig ist außerdem die fehlende Behaarung.

2004 wurde sie zum Insekt des Jahres gewählt.

Lebensweise

Die Larven der Hainschwebfliegen sind zoophag, sie ernähren sich u. a. von bestimmten Blattläusen und anderen kleinen Lebewesen. Im erwachsenen Stadium , der eigentlichen Schwebfliege, ernähren sie sich von Nektar und Pollen von Blütenpflanzen und sind Bestäuber. Sie besitzen zudem eine Vorliebe für gelbe Blüten.

Vorkommen

Besonders zahlreich schwirren sie zwischen Mai und August in Feuchtgebieten, Wäldern und in Gebirgen. Sie sind in ganz Europa verbreitet.


Erkennungsmerkmale

Besonders auffällig ist das Erscheinungsbild der Hainschwebfliege. Sie bildet das Aussehen einer Wespe nach (Wespenmimikry). Außerdem besitzt sie herab hängende Antennen mit einer dorsalen Granne, die kürzer als der Kopf sind. Die Haut ist am Gesicht und Scutellum (Schildchen) teilweise gelb und am Hinterrand vom vierten Tergit hell gefärbt. Das Mesonotum ist einfarbig dunkel oder besitzt einen aufgehellten Seitenrand. Die Pleuren besitzen keine gelben Flecken, können häufig von Pollen bestäubt und matt sein. Sie besitzt weiterhin ein behaartes Metasternum. Das dritte und vierte Hinterleibstergit ist mit je zwei hellen Querbinden versehen. Der vordere flache Teil der Mesopleura ist behaart. Die Flügel sind besonders wichtig. Sie besitzen eine Scheinader (Vena spuria), die zwischen der vierten und fünften Radialader und der ersten Medialader liegt. Zudem ist sie an ihren Enden nicht mit anderen Adern verbunden. Die obere und untere Randqueradern verlaufen parallel zum Hinterrand des Flügels, die fünfte Radialzelle ist dadurch geschlossen. Die Mundwerkzeuge sind wie bei den meisten Fliegengruppen zu Leckwerkzeugen umgestaltet.


An orange and black banded hoverfly with a distinctive pattern of faint stripes on the body, this species is widespread and very common. Hoverflies are useful insects to encourage in a garden as most species feed on aphids and this one is no exception.

In most years numbers are greatly boosted by immigration from the continent.

Hi Thijs

This is an excellent macro shot of a beautiful hoverfly. Every little feature down to the smallest piece of detail is clearly visible. The contrasting colours between the fly, the flower butt, and the BG is just amazing. Great stuff.

A lovely composition and POV with good cropping and spatial utilisation. The stunning colours are visually pleasing. The great DOF from the small aperture provided precision focus, the perfectly OOF and well isolated BG enhanced the insect, and the spot-on exposure with the fill-in flash provided remarkable lighting all-round.

Hi Thijs,
Vandaag op het journaal was er een stukje over zweefvliegen. Het blijkt dat ze steeds minder voorkomen en dat er nog veel te ontdekken valt over dit soort. Volgend jaar zou er een zweefvliegatlas uit moeten komen dus dan heb je nog meer informatie over deze insecten.
Misschien kunnen ze wel een van je foto's gebruiken want deze ziet er weer fantastisch uit.
Mooie compositie, scherpte en details.
