In the Domain of the Sandhill

I had the special privilege tonight of being "reach-out-and-touch" close to a sandhill crane walking among the plants skimming the water's surface directly in front of the small dock where I stood.
You may also be interested in a group shot of these birds that I posted tonight on TL: A Four-Part Sandhill Harmony. |

Indeed this was a pleasure for you and also a pleasure for me to be able to see this picture. The coloring and compositional background worked well for you, showing native habitat. This was a good day for you as a photographer. You continue to surprise. Thank you for sharing your day in the woods with us.

The light is stunning in this photo. Beautiful natural colors. Nice details and composition.
This is a bute Jim! I found it via TL! And am glad I did! I think you stalked this sand-crane very well! It looks pretty wary! And having seen what lil it takes with herons to spook these "king fishers" I'd say you did very very well!
Compositionwise I would remove a wee bit of the surroundings
[ right edge and esp. the bottom ] to bring the bird "forward" ... Done a wee WS, hope you like! Tfs, Jay
You got pretty close to this wary breed of bird. I posted a crane today also... taking off. Yours posed nicely. We always see cranes in the fields. I've never seen one in water. The lily pads make a sort of busy background but they are nice and sharp and interesting to me.
